See MoreSelf-catering 2 bedroom tented accommodation at the foot of the Langbeen Mountains.
Our final night before heading back to Windhoek was at Zambezi Mubala Lodge just slightly further down stream from ZM Camp and on the banks of the Zambezi. A much more luxurious option. Great area for birding and enjoying the beautiful surroundings. Calvin was an excellent guide on our afternoon birding trip along the river. We were lucky enough to see African skimmers and a malachite kingfisher as well as bee-eaters, coucals, and various herons.
This is the 3rd accommodation establishment we visited in the Zambezi region, south-east of Katima Mulilo on the banks of one of the Zambezi River's backwater channels. Great option for fishermen and families on a budget. Henk and Renata were fantastic hosts and Ernest was one of the best barmen we have met.
As with our previous trip to Bwabwata National Park (although this time we stayed on the eastern side of the Kwando at Namushasha), had an amazing game drive. It was beautiful to see so many elephants coming down to the river to drink just before sunset.
Last week 2 of us went up to check out a few lodges in the Zambezi region. Due to heavy rains in the river catchment area, a few places, such as Chobe River Camp, are having to cope with a wee bit of flooding. Although gumboots and the sound of sloshing water as people waded around became the norm, it also turned the area into a water wonderland. A big thank you to Mariette and her team who were truly fantastic.
After some lovely late rain we thought it was time to explore the hills around Windhoek.
I know I probably post too many pics of birds from our garden but couldn't resist this Long-tailed Paradise Whydah before they change to their less flamboyant, non-breeding plumage.
While the intrepid 5 rode the rest of us stayed at base camp to keep the drinks safe!
2 hour ride followed by a braai with Equitrails, just north of Windhoek.
A few new arrivals at our bird-feeder. We suspect they are escapees as they do not look like lovebirds that we normally see in Windhoek. Can't decide if Fischer's, black-cheeked or maybe even a hybrid.
Took off early last Friday to celebrate our new garden
