Professional activity operator in Walvis Bay, Namibia. Tours to Sandwich Harbour are amazing, something to add to your list of things to do when you visit Namibia.

We made a tour today for watch Seals + Desert Dunes. Referring the desert tour I was very disappointed about the behaviour of one of the two drivers: we had a little stop to drink something, when I gave to the driver an empty can of beer he throwed away on the ground. In the desert. I said "no!" , he said " oh yes, that is yours not mine".
At the end one of the people who were with us took the can and gave it to the other driver (Rudy) so no rubbish left on the desert. So when you choose a tour operator please choose someone who cares about environment, because those places are National Park of Namibia and are Protected area. Not a trash area.

My wife and I have just spent a few days at Pelican Point Lodge in Walvis Bay, which as an aside is unbelievably good. Whilst staying there we a very charming Brazilian family, the Junqueria's (mother, father and two daughters, one teenaged and the other slightly older). They were very excited to be spending Christmas Day visiting Sandwich Bay Harbour.

Last evening a very distressed and bedraggled Junqueria family arrived back at the Lodge with a harrowing and horrid story of unprofessional tour operators.

On the way to Sandwich Bay, the 4x4 they were in had a tyre blow out. The driver did not have the correct equipment with which to change the tyre. He also did not have a two way radio or other means of calling for help. The driver then disappeared apparently going to look for help. If you know Namibia and the route into Sandwich Bay, it is not for the unprepared or the unprofessional. It is a very tough and hard drive thorough soft desert sand and dunes. You may also not see another human being for hours given that drivers all seem to want to create their own route there.

Imagine the Junqueria family when hours later their driver had not reappeared. They were pretty distressed. They did have water and snacks in the vehicle so at least they did not need to worry about that. After 5 hours a Good Samaritan arrived and gave them a lift back to Walvis Bay.

I wish this story had some happy ending, but it did not. The driver had still not appeared or apologized. The Junqueria's did visit Sandwich Adventure Yours this morning where the"chivalrous" owner operator Joseph offered them 50% of their money back on the basis that they had driven half way there and they had eaten the food etc... they were also told they could visit an attorney should they so desire.

This is not the way to run a business and most certainly not the way to look after the lifeblood of Namibia's economy, i.e., the Tourism Industry.

So to fellow adventure travelers be wary and only choose those operators who come well recommended. Remember the desert is a dangerous and unforgiving place
