Peace Garden Lodge is situated 7 kilometres east from Grootfontein town. Grootfontein is the last town on the long roads to Tsumkwe and Rundu and for travellers coming from Etosha it might be worth spending a night here to refuel or stock up on provisions before continuing the long journey.
The town Grootfontein is located in the north-east of Namibia in a lush green environment.
The town is 1,430 meters above sea level and has a semi-tropical climate. The environment is blessed with an annual rainfall of 500mm and higher.
During summer months Grootfontein is turned into a lush paradise of purple, blue, red and green hues as Jacaranda and Flamboyant trees bloom. The district is abundantly endowed with wildlife and game, while the district is well known for its cattle and crop farming. The town is well-developed and is the gateway to the north-eastern parts of Namibia.
One of the highlights in the Grootfontein area must be a visit to the Hoba Meteorite, on the farm Hoba West. The meteorite is approximately 2,9 m wide, and between 0,9 m and 1,2 m high.
It weighs more than 60 tons. It is believed to have fallen to earth less than 80,000 years ago.
