If you're looking for true paradise in the desert - then you have to visit Khowarib Lodge!
The staff were absolutely fantastic and made us feel so welcome after a long hot drive through the desert.
Our room was stunning and we had a beautiful view over the river.
The bathroom was open air and built in the most ingenious way! Showering under the stars is an experience not to be missed!
We went on the desert elephant excursion with a brilliant guide who told us so much about the natives, the local area and the elephants. We were so lucky to find a herd and tracked them through the bush for several hours.
Each night we were treated to a fabulous 3 course meal with an open fire. The staff were so attentive and the bar was very well stocked!
If we ever find ourselves back in Namibia we will definitely be going back!response / report this review -

Charming Lodge. Large balcony with river views. Shower without a roof, just above the stars. Clean rooms, large and equipped. A quiet and charming place. A pleasant pool. Great dinner. A short walk between parking and rooms. The best lodge I have been in Namibia.

We stayed at the lodge for 2 nights and everything was quite nice. The tent chalets are located right at the Hoanib riverfront and offer a feeling of being right in the wilderness. The open bathrooms were also a funny experience.
The view/location of the lodge is breathtaking, the staff very nice and helpful, the prices for drinks and food were about the same as for many other lodges (500ml Windhoek Draught for 35 NAD). Everything was clean and in good condition. The food was excellent as well. We missed nothing.
The distance and walkways from the parking space to the reception and further on to the chalets is not suitable for wheelchairs, but the walksways were better or at least the same as for many other lodges. They also had free delivery service of your luggage. However, expecting a parking lot right in front of your chalet will not fit with the wilderness experience the lodge offers.
Our tour to the Desert Elephants was great and not only about the elephants but also about other animals, the nature in whole and the land(scapes).
As we met the lodge and the staff, we would recommend it without question for people who like a wilderness experience.

Shocking experience Khowarib Lodge
We would like to lay a formal complaint towards the owner and manageress of Khowarib Lodge.
On arrival on 1 July 2017 we found the chalets about half a kilometer from the parking area, on an uneven walk across deep sand and boulders.
Nowhere on the info supplied by the lodge do they mention the fact that they do not cater for people with walking difficulty. My wife is recovering from a knee injury, and my sister in law from a broken ankle, she was wearing a moonboot at the time.
I tried to put several solutions to the manageress, but she blatantly refused every suggestion, and then told me and my brother in law to drop our attitudes.
We then decided to compromise, because we had a long drive and it was difficult to find alternative accommodation in the immediate area. With much difficulty, the woman could get to the rooms with absolutely no help from the management.
After dinner we went to bed, and then the next shocking experience- some of the beds still had the same sheets from the previous guests. We were a party of 6, and my bed was not fitted with clean sheets, my wife’s sheets were covered with dinner plate size stains, my daughter’s bed had pubic hair between the sheets.
I asked the maintenance manager to have a look, and he then arranged, with an enormous attitude, for new linen. I asked him why they did not check on the units before new guests arrive, and he told us we were just difficult customers. When I asked him to give me an honest answer on the condition of the sheets, he just ignored me. Then he decided to walk away.
The manageress then arrived with 6 male staff members and told us we have two hours to get off the premises. I told her that is impossible whereupon she answered that she will get the police to come and remove us.
I man then stepped forward, asking us what the problem was, stating that he was the owner’s brother, and he would like to help us to solve the problem. We explain to him the situation, while the manageress told him,” leave them my love, the police are on the way to throw them out”.
He asked her to step aside, telling her he will handle the situation. We asked for clean linen offering to make the beds ourselves, which he then arranged. We left early the following morning before breakfast.
The manageress was extremely rude, and the fact that she is in a relationship with the owner’s brother clearly gave her a false sense of power. She has no management skills, and definitely has no knowledge to handle customers. She is an absolute disgrace to the guest housing profession.
We are South African citizens, and we have spent hundreds of thousands of South African Rand over the past ten years in Namibia. We visited several guest houses, and NEVER had an experience like this.
We demand a proper investigation into the matter. I am sure this is not how you would like to handle guests in your country.response / report this review -

Its a nice enough place with a nice bar and restaurant and most of the staff were very nice.
Camping is a reasonable price with power and water / sink
Didn't like the guy with the beard who works there who was very rude to the woman in the nearby shop or Caesar (think thats how you spell it), who also works there / with them, who told me the UK doesn't have an identity anymore 'because of all the rag heads'
But apart from the casual / blatant racism it was quite nice.response / report this review -

Die omgewing is pragtig en die personeel is vriendelik maar dis hopeloos te duur. Om darem R35 vir n gewone bier te betaal is rowery. Bly dan liewer in Palmwag

It's a bit rustic, but in such a dramatic location. They run really good trips to look for desert elephants and also Himba outings.
