Impressive swimming spot. You float due to the high salt content in the water. You are even able to sit upright wothout sinking. The drive through the desert to get there is very beautiful.

Always one of the highlights of a trip to Hentiesbaai to spend some time at the Dead Sea.

Hidden within the Namib Desert, you will find the Namibian Dead Sea. Alright, it is not a sea, exactly. It is more like a pond.

Nevertheless, this special Namibian site is definitely something to get excited about. What was once the Strathmore South Tin Mine has now transformed into Namibia’s very own little dead sea. This is because the excavation site filled with underground water.

Due to various minerals in the water, the salinity of the lake is particularly high and causes swimmers to float freely in the water – hence the reference to the Dead Sea. Locals claim that the pool has healing properties and fondly call it the ‘Soutgat’ – which is Afrikaans for Salt hole.

If you are near this place you have to make an effort to get here! Experience of a lifetime! I always try to visit once a year. The drive there can be a little bumpy, so only 4x4 is recommended. And remember you need a permit to go there. It is easily obtaide. And remember to bring fresh water with you to rinse yourself

Super fun and a must to do. Take stuff for a nice long visit. It gets hot there. Watch out for a small sign on the eastern side of the road opposite a 20km sign. Its small! From then its eazy to find

It is a good idea to bring a few litres of clean, fresh water to rinse yourself with afterwards

Gravel road to the "Dead sea" in bad condition. The swimming hole is quite popular and has potential for development, i.e. providing basics such as fresh water and ablution facilities.

Better than the Dead See. I've been at both and prefer our local version. We have been going there for about 15 years and each year is special. The road is a bit corrugated, but not too bad for a 4x4.

It's amazing to find a wonder like this in the middle of nowhere. Definitly one of the best things I have seen in Namibia. This is a must see if you are in the Henties bay area. The long drive out was worth it.

Unique experience. The high salt and mineral concentration meat we could not sink. Family fun.

What an amazing experience. What ever you do, do not put your eyes in the water as they will burn. Carry alot of water will you to wash after as the salt settles on the skin.

This place is great. Namibia's response to the dead Sea! :) Be sure to travel there with lots of water to wash off the salt after the swim. And do not let the water get into your eyes ..😊
