WELCOME TO CORONA
We have been able to retrace the history of Corona as far back as the turn of last century . Two old wells , found in a riverbed as well as old ox wagon trails passing Rooi Huis , support the assumption that one of the transport routes leading from the coast of the Namibian Hinterland went past Corona and Picadilly before “winding” up the Gamsberg Pass .
Whilst nowadays this journey from the coast to Windhoek takes approximately six hours of travel on good gravel roads , less than a hundred years ago , heavy ox wagons struggled for weeks to cover the same distance , passing the Namib Desert and surmounting the barrier of the Gamsberg massive .
We have not yet discover who actually built the first Corona . Nevertheless families such as the “de Jager’s” , “Vivier’s” , “Keck’s and “Lang’s” and since 1987 the present owner Dr W Petri , continually expanded , developed and improved the buildings and the surrounding property . Unfortunately a tragic accident extinguished a nearly one hundred year old site . On the 4th of September 1995 , Corona , which had just been developed into a guest farm , burnt down to its foundations ( unfortunately uninsured ) .
After a long period of uncertainty and hesitation , Dr Wolfgang Petri and his wife , decided to rebuild the guest farm . After one year of intensive construction , Corona was reopened on the first of July 1997 . Comfort and coziness at reasonable prices as well as an array of excellent meals and genuine hospitality awaits you here on Corona .
FURTHER INFORMATION
As Corona , like most of the other guest farms in the country , relies on its own supply of electricity and water – comparable to a ship on the ocean – our guests can always count on light , hot water , television and a cold beer . This is thanks to our system of generators , batteries , pumps and miles of water pipes .
However , is used extensively , the system may sometimes fail , thus giving us the pleasure to experience romantic candle light dinners , braai meals and a warm beer …
We would therefore like to ask our guests to support us by using our water and electricity supplies with adequate respect .
KITCHEN AND SERVICE
Corona is reputed for its excellent kitchen and distinguished service . Our aim is to spoil our guests in the culinary field of the hospitality industry as well as make them feel at home in our individually furnished accommodations .
