Paradise!!!
Lovely camp with welcoming staff. Phenomenal female manager. Love the dinner next to the African Bush television (Boma). Guide Nelson is very knowledgeable he is excellent birding. Beautiful place indeed!!!response / report this review -

Unfortunately, we had a pretty poor experience at the Chobe River Camp.
We've been very happy Gondwana visitors for many years, enjoying not only the lodges themselves, but knowing that the lodges help local communities to thrive. On both fronts, we were disappointed.
I'll try to be brief with my description, but we have a bit to report on. The road to the lodge is exceptionally bad. So bad in fact, that if we had arrived a day earlier, right after the rains, we would not have made it with a 2x4. Certainly the office in Windhoek could have made us aware of this? (The lodge staff told us that they themselves sometimes don't make it onto the main road from the lodge.)
We were greeted kindly by Beauty and her staff, but we had to move our luggage to our rooms ourselves. The paths are sandy, overgrown and long, and my dad has a limping gait. No help was offered to move the luggage. The rooms are spacious, but poorly maintained. The mosquito net was nothing short of filthy and was crawling with little bugs from the day before. The bedside lamps were broken and the condensors not working adequately. We occupied 4 rooms, and this was true of 3. All tents have wooden floor boards, some of which are 0.5cm apart - you can see the ground about a metre underneath. This means that at night, you can't leave the lights on, unless you want your room buzzing with insects (rendering the mosquito nets rather useless, as the insects come up underneath the bed!). We were told that the rooms would have mosquito repellent, but none of the 4 rooms did. Lastly, at one room the railing was so poorly fastened, that if you actually held onto it to climb the stairs, you would have gone over the edge (room 9).
The breakfast was sub-par, at best. There was no juice, no milk, and for 7 people, there were 6 slices of bread (Unfortunately, all of us are Germans. We love our bread). Very thin slices of bread, too. After 20 minutes these deficiencies were remedied, but by that time we had finished our breakfast.
The staff was not able to assist us on information about activities in the surrounding area. Not even info about the Chobe National Park was available, which you can see from the lodge. Unless it was a lodge-offered activitiy, the staff didn't have any information. That's simply poor training. Also, when we asked if it was safe to canoe, we were assured that it was. Supposedly, no hippos were in the area. In a bit of a stroll down the very narrow river, we discovered a hippo after only a few hundred metres. Canoeing past the hippo on a 3m wide river We strongly urge caution for any future travellers!
We did a day trip to Vic Falls and when we returned, we discovered that in one of our room all the cookies had been eaten away, cookies that had been in a small tupperware when we left that morning. Self-baked Christmas cookies. They certainly were delicious, but if we had intended to share, we would have put up a sign to say so. This experience was rather unfortunate.
Beauty and her team were lovely and were most helpful throughout our three days there. The dinners were delicious, and the setting in the evening great in the boma. But they couldn't outweigh the negatives we experienced. Also, I hope that the rumours of accommodation that was promised to the staff in March, but that still has not been built and results in up to 1h long walks for staff in the depths of the night to the lodge, prove untrue. Either way, I cannot recommend the lodge to anyone else, until improvements have been made by management, and I hope these points will be taken to heart.response / report this review -

Not so welcoming on arrival, very hot entertainment areas, staff not helpful! Look forward to Gondwana take over with professional & friendly service!

We spent 4 nights there on the banks of the Chobe River. It is truly impossible to get bored. Changing landscapes, amazing wildlife sanctuary, warm service (hi five to Beaven) and tasty food (even for a vegetarian). Do not miss the sundowner cruise !

Peaceful and within close proximity to the Chobe Game Reserve. The boat cruise is an absolute great way to see wildlife. Love it here.

Camp has been taken over by the Gondwana group. Lots still to be done but you can expect the usual good Gondwana quality. Will be a very nice place once they have finished revamping

Only camp during my 3 weeks holiday in which I did not want to enter the tent/room because there were hundreds of thousands of bugs! On the floor, within and outside of the windownets, within the moskito net, everywhere. Even though we did not unpack anything, we found the bugs the next morning under an in every corner of our backpacks and luggage and did not get rid of them for days! this is the only problem of this camp, otherwise it is good (lounge with current, good food, nice staff). But this problem is huge.

Sehr origineller Campingplatz, man in sehr geräumigen Zelten auf Stelzen untergebracht. Lage genau am Chobe, gegenüber in Botswana lassen sich viele Tiere beobachten. Verpflegung ist in Ordnung, sehr zu empfehlen ist die Fahrt mit einem Kanu auf dem Fluß.

Superbe endroit, accueil parfait et camp-site très tranquille à l'écart. Les animaux étaient très présent, le repas du soir excellent et le personnel aux petits soins !!!
