Museums must move on. They have a big selection butcis the wow still there? Go upstairs for the smaller wonders of nature.

The best museum in Maputo, well curated for it's propose. Kids friendly. I think it needs an update on the soundscaping, the quality of the of the sound system doesn't give one the correct sensory feel. But still best in town for me!

It's mainly stuffed animals and they are not well kept. I could give one star but I gave more because the stuff working there is very friendly. I think the place needs attention in order to serve the public.

Worth a visit especially to see the taxidermy, which is in some places questionable and often times humorously done. Great selection of shells and crustacheans upstairs, and an incredible display of elephant foetal development.

Very interesting experience, much like entering the natural history museum in Pretoria, just a bit smaller, with some of the animals, it is possible to tell that the taxidermist/sculptor has only heard of them as the depiction is a bit weird. Overall very interesting, will be more informative if you could speak/read Portuguese. Entrance fee is 50MT per person which translates to about R12 South African currency. Museum is definitely a place to visit when going to Maputo.

Its very good to work in here with fish, reptiles and amphibian collections. A good place for bringing Kids to learn more about Mozambican biodiversity.

I used to come here as a child all the time; it had been a few years since my last visit, and I wasn't dissapointed. Everything was exactly as I remembered it, which isn't really the best thing, as some information was outdated (the evolutionary tree, that sort of thing), but it is a magical place, and truly somewhere one must visit when in Maputo.
The building is beautiful, but sadly, there is no wheelchair accessibility; a flight of stairs inside, too. Some of the taxidermy is a little funny, but a lot of effort and care went into the placement of the animals.response / report this review
