Chimanimani National Park (PNC), in Mozambique, Manica Province, in the district of Sussundenga, is a set of unique and pristine habitats marked by a high level of endemism. The flora is characterized by undifferentiated Afromontane vegetation, which is part of the center of Zambezian regional endemism. Currently, the Chimanimani National Park has documented 1236 species, in which 2 are critically endangered (Arthroleptis troglodytes and Streptocarpus acicularis), 7 endangered (Coffea salvatrix, Danthoniopsis chimanimaniensis, Ficus muelleriana, Gutenbergia westii, Sericanthe Chimanimaniensis, Synsepalum sp. nov., Redunca fulvorufula) 9 vulnerable (Centella obtriangularis, Otiophora lanceolata, Vepris drummondii, Polemaetus bellicosus, Ciconia episcopus, Bucorvus leadbeateri, Falco fasciinucha, Smutsia temminckii, Loxodonta africana) and 9 near - threatened (Maranthes goetzeniana, Pterocarpus angolensis, Vernonia muelleri muelleri, Stephanoaetus coronatus, Terathopius ecaudatus, Aonyx capensis, Rhinolophus deckenii, Rhinolophus smithersi) according to IUCN database. 74 plants are endemic and 19 near endemic, 7 birds are endemic to the southern region of Africa, 3 species are new to Mozambique and 2 are new to science.Because of its high value in terms of biodiversity, the PNC is considered as IBA (important area for birds), AZE (zero extinction area) and KBA (key biodiversity area). These categories were assigned using international criteria (Birdlife, key biodiversity hotspots code MZ006, crèche A1 A2 and A3) for presenting populations of species of interest for conservation and the remaining population of species that are in danger or critically endangered, as well as vulnerable and irreplaceable.
