USMKK Symphony Orchestra (USMKKSO) signifies a milestone for Kelantan State in light of fostering greater unity, and raising the standards of music in Kelantan. USMKKSO is officially established on the 22th January 2014, which was lead by baton of Dr. Garry Kuan, together with a team of committed student committees, from the School of Medical Sciences, Health Sciences and Dental. Currently, USMKK Symphony Orchestra has grown to 157 members, and is affiliated under the USMKK Music Club.
The principle objective of USMKK Symphony Orchestra is to provide an opportunity for USM students and communities of Kelantan State to get closer through music playing, and to establish a charismatic orchestra that became a landmark of the Universiti Sains Malaysia Health Campus. Other objectives of the orchestra are to promote cultural and educational development, and to provide opportunities for communities to learn and to play music together. To achieve these objectives, the USMKKSO had gathered students with different musical backgrounds, providing a platform for grooming their musical skills. Besides, USMKKSO also provides music classes to help the new members to acquire musical skills.
Currently, USMKKSO meets every Friday from 3.00pm to 5.00pm, led by Dr. Garry Kuan, who is also the conductor of the orchestra. Within a year, USMKKSO is actively performed in various University’s functions and activities, and also in numerous hotels across Kelantan State. USMKKSO also had provided free violin lessons to the orphanages across Kelantan State. We welcome new members to join our club and to raise the standards of music to serve the communities in Kelantan.
