KUALA LUMPUR: Several major roads in the city will be closed to vehicular traffic this Sunday to make way for the Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) cycling event.
The last phase of the seven-day nationwide race will commence in Rembau, Negri Sembilan and end at Dataran Merdeka here on the same day.
City Traffic Enforcement and Investigation chief Assistant Commissioner Zulkefly Yahya said the cyclists are expected to cross the city’s border from Negri Sembilan at about 2pm.
...He said the closures will be carried out in stages, depending on where the majority of the cyclists are at any given time; and that traffic police will be stationed throughout the route to facilitate the smooth flow of bicycles.
"Police will start the closures half an hour ahead of the (estimated) time (participants) will reach the city limits.
"Road closures will begin at 1.30pm. They will be reopened to traffic in stages, starting at 4pm," Zulkefly said.
Among the roads which will be closed for the LTdL are Kg. Cheras Baru, Jalan Kuari MRR2, Jalan Cheras, Tun HS Lee, Jalan Kinabalu, Masjid Negara, Jalan Sultan lsmail, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Raja Dataran Merdeka, Leboh Pasar Besar, Jalan Hang Lekiu, Jalan Tun Perak, Jalan Raja Chulan, Jalan P. Ramlee and Jalan Ampang.
The 6.6km route in the city will kick off from, as well as end at, Dataran Merdeka.
Zulkefly advised the public to avoid the affected roads on Sunday.
"Plan your travel ahead and use alternative roads to avoid getting stuck in any congestion. (The) public can also consider using public transport on that day," he added.
