Malaysian Red Crescent Society Island District is fortunate to be chartered for the activities in Penang Island, covering the North-East and South-West Districts. We are located in the hub of activities with various cultural celebrations, religious festivals and sporting events are held almost every week. Our members was covering Thaipusam festival that was challenging for the large area and millions of visitors. We are also a common sight in the Penang Bridge International Marathon, where our professional services help to make sure that all participants make it to the finishing line. Our members also cover extreme cycling and hiking events, very often performing our duties on the remote hills of Penang.
Among the activities of Malaysian Red Crescent Society Island District:
• Public Duties and First Aid Standby: Our trained members and ambulance crew can be called upon to provide first aid standby services for large events such as sporting, religious and cultural events. Our trained officers will provide customized solution for any event.
• Ambulance Service: Our volunteers complements and supplements the Government Emergency Medical Services and is most active during the festive seasons
• Disaster Relief: In an event of a disaster, the MRCS officers and members will work with the Malaysian Government to provide vital assistance to disaster victims. We also coordinate donations for international disasters.
• Health & Community Service: MRCS carries out programmes that promote home safety, wellness and social inclusion.
• First Aider in Every Home: We provide community based first aid training to prepare participants for any simple first aid eventualities.
• Blood Donation: We organize blood donation drive in various communities to provide safe and continuous supply of blood for the National Blood Bank.
• Youth and Link Development: The MRCS provides training and developmental programs for our members in primary and secondary schools. Students are taught first aid, leadership and independence.
• Fellowship for Adult Members: After leaving school, members can continue their services through the voluntary aid detachments (VAD). The VAD’s also provide fellowship and camaraderie for adult members through various programs. Adults from various walks of life join the VAD to explore their potential.
The MRCS relies on donations to fund our activities and services. We welcome and appreciate any monetary assistance that allows us to better serve the community.
