A lot of museums in surrounding area unfortunately not being looked after like so many places in Malaysia. It's a shame really... We want to feel proud of our history and culture rather than embarrassed by their dilapidations.
Historical place at the foot of St. Paul hill. Beside the garden and the sultan museum entrance. Built by the Portuguese. This landmark is on of the oldest surviving European architectural remains in the whole Asia. Worth to visit.
One of the famous landmarks in Malacca, I don't really know the story behind it (not a history kind of guy), but not far from here you can find food and fresh coconut tenants to enjoy the afternoon.
Such a good visual marker of a monumental history. A good way to put the Portugese and Dutch efforts into context in modern day Malacca. A more detailed display would be better, but a little reading will fill you in. Well looked after gardens surrounding the remains of the gate.
Our visit to this place turned out to be very romantic due to the drizzle that started just after we reached. It looked beautiful with the rain and the greenery surrounding us.
This small patch of ruins is basically conserved for tourist purpose.
Good place for all your Insta pics.
Make sure you also visit the St Paul's church at the top of the hill which is just a small hike away.
BE prepared to see couples on their pre-wedding shoots, like we did.
Very good place to visit as it is a great original historical heritage for Malaysia. Sadly the ambience is not there. Becomes too commercial centred & loses its aura. Authorities should fire the officers in charge. A number of moronic trishaw pullers blasting stupid noise for deaf people. Smokers & automobiles everywhere. Bastard workers ride motorcycles on walkways should be given e-bikes or manual bikes instead. Petty traders all over the place spoils view & feelings. So disorganised.
Historical places for those who likes to learn on Melaka history and to have fun. There are colorful trishaws for rides.
Nice place if you're interested in historical sites. But since it's outdoors, it can be hot so dress lightly. The fortress is also placed very strategically, near to other nice tourist spots like St. Paul's hill
This small gate happens to be the oldest European structure in Southeast Asia. Make sure to walk up the hill and check out St. Paul's Church. For anyone who likes history, make sure to visit this place.
it's cool building and architectur. must visit landmark if you to Malaka. you can go straigh down after visit St Paul Church, there are mucisian and illustrator too inside.
Personally, I think the historic value is slightly lost with touristy pathways, stalls and novelties being sold around the area. Would be better if Malaysian tourism put more effort into recreating the original fort as opposed to just doing things for tourists' sake.
Great location, Jalan Jalan is exactly located in religion street of melaka. Helful staff, they will show you the way to visit popular place in historic city. They also took us a night walking tour in riverside wooden path. Some notes: faulty toilet, no air condition, only fan, dim yellow light ( we booked dorm room for 4)
A must see place to visit, very well-preserved. You can wander around with no need of local guide. It is scorching hot, though. Well-prepare yourself with lots of water, hat, sunglasses, SPF.
This is the best place to visit. There are a lot of museums, galleries, and memorials for those who seeking for historic information regarding Malaya and Malay. It also good for those who love to visit historical places. Don't worry about food and other stuff, there are also stalls and restaurants around. souvenirs are also there! shop what you what, enjoy as you pleased 😆. Hotels are not really far from there.
