‘60 days a Story’:
‘Imagination is more important than knowledge.’ - Albert Einstein
Knowledge Vs Imagination
In today’s world we often give more emphasis to knowledge-gaining than creating room for imagination. Children usually spend more time on hectic school works as their source of knowledge rather than through alternative sources that encourage imagination.
One of the way to fuel a child’s imagination is through story-telling. Story helps transport children’s imagination to another world or adventure. While children could enjoy stories through reading books, most find it more engaging to have the story read to them by a good storyteller. An engaging storyteller knows how to fuel a child’s imagination by using different approaches that could bring a story into life. The approaches can be as simple as animated changes in facial expressions and voices, or through more elaborate use of props.
Objective
The purpose of this proposal is to create opportunities for both parent and children to take a break from their usual routine and make space for a little imagination through storytelling. It also intend to raise awareness of other possible benefits that can be gained through listening to a story other than enhancing creativity and imagination. When children are engaged by a story, they could also:
- Pick up new knowledge
- Enhance listening skill and flow of speech
- Learn new words and widen their vocabulary
In addition, a story session where both parent and child participated together can be an enriching parent-child bonding experience.
