Mexican immegration forces you to pay 533 mecican peso per person as a 'tourist tax', only payable in their own currency, not accepting any cards. No exchange offices, no ATM's, nothing. Most likely you already paid for it with plane tickets, but you better be able to prove it.
If you can't and have no pesos on you to pay, they take your passports and you need to get money elsewhere. Very unfriendly way of entering a country, be prepared.response / report this review -

Very easy boarder crossing. Was coming from Caye Caulker. Had some amazing fish tacos while I waiting for the bus!

Immigration forces you to pay an extra tourist tax even though you already paid it when entering Mexico by plane. That spells SCAM by the Mexican immigration. Be aware!

Excelente lugar para recorrerlo antes del amanecer, al igual que en la atardecer. Ofrecen el servicio de transporte hacia Belice para realizar un tour.

Llegar a Chetumal por barco desde Belice es mu sencillo. El trámite de aduana es simple. Lo más molesto es hacer la fila. Usan el botón de luz verde o rojo para pasar la aduana. Está cerca de la ciudad.

Catch the water boat to Belize from here. The customs process was easy, but the boat was delayed for some reason. Didn't feel like there was a "set" schedule, but then again, you're on Mexico time.
