Unbelievable experience! Incredible day. Hiking & swimming in the cave was unreal. My family will never forget this. Our guide, Ana was amazing.

This is a must do attraction. Walk through 2 million yr old caverns with a guide. They provide a wet suit, life vest, and a helmet with light. Yes, some sections the water is deep enough that you will need to swim across. Beautiful place.dont think twicejust go!!

Great place to have nature fun. The tour was very well organized. The price to be paid for the pictures seemed high to me (100 USD). Overall I would definitely recommend the place.

This is the place that should be visited. I would say a "Must". We have the best memories from that place. I would recommend to book the trip over the phone, so you can save $100 bucks that later on can be spend on the pictures from that wonderful trip. Worth every penny. The only thing I would recommend to the company is to extend the tour a little bit longer, at least for the groups without the kids.

It was such a good tour!! I had the “Plus”, which includes biking, hiking, repelling and exploring a few caves in the area and learning a little bit of Mayan history.
Very good, and would definitely recommend! Luis (Batman) was a very good guide with a humorous and charming personality. He made everyone feel like we were safe and the whole group enjoyed him. Very handsome as well, hehe.

Overall an extraordinary place! It's really 5 stars. It's a beautiful, one-of-a-kind experience. But because our particular guide was slow and unorganized, I'm giving the experience 3 stars.
We got the "Plus" option, which included repelling, riding on fixed gear bikes, and two jaunts through the caves. Lunch was also included.
Despite these awesome activities, our day there was far too long. We were there from 8:30a-3:30p! No exaggeration. We were initially told that it was a 3-4 hour event. And we told our cabbie that info.
I literally had to break away from the group to find the INCLUDED meal and ate it alone Our guide had disappeared once again.
Thankfully, our loyal taxi driver stayed well past the 12:30 time that he was unfortunately told. For example, we caught a ride back to the registration area with tour groups who BEGAN their trek at noon (ours began sometime after 8:30a). So, we had stayed thru two cycles of touring. No bueno.
To be sure, this was a fascinating experience, but the fact that we were basically held hostage kind of puts a damper on the beauty of it all.
Be forewarned. Take your watch or ask your guide to stick to a reasonable schedule. And as a last resort, bring snacks in case you don't get your meal until after all of your touring is complete.response / report this review -

Very cool place. My only complaint was that they charge $25 per picture and they don't allow you to take your own camera inside the cave. I would rate it less stars for that alone but the inside of the cave was so darn cool that I'm giving it 4 stars.

We went to Rio Secreto as an excursion on our cruise. The Rio Secreto staff was very punctual, and well coordinated in getting us to and from our ferry. They provided us with a wet suit, helmet, wet shoes, and a life jacket, along with a locked locker to store our belongings. Each helmet had a headlamp, and mine was pretty weak. After a short hike through the jungle we entered an amazing cave system. Our guide was very nice, and did a good job of leading our group through the caverns. Our group had 9 people in it. The water was cold, but the wet suit kept you pretty warm. The cave system is beautiful, and although the guide's first language obviously wasn't English, she was able to explain what we were seeing, and how it came to be there. The cave alternates between you having to walk, wade, and swim through the waters. After we came out of the cave system, we walked back to the lockers, and changed out of our gear. They provided us with a buffet lunch that was very tasty. The only lack of communication from the staff happened after lunch, when we didn't really know when our van was coming to take us back, and we had to wait for about 10-15 minutes until a van arrived that had room for us. Overall though, i would highly recommend people visiting the Rio Secreto! It was a beautiful, once in a lifetime opportunity.

Really enjoyable experience walking through the underground caves. The caves are really interesting and picturesque. However I would say they're not quite as spectacular as the National Geographic style images on display (at least on the route we went on). Our guide was fantastic - knowledgeable and bi-lingual for the Germans in our group and equally attentive to both groups. Lockers felt secure and more than sufficient.
There are 4 different routes and the one we went on was one involving more water which was fine for us as it was nice and cool and less walking on sometimes precarious rocks. Walking sticks are available for those less assured on their feet. Prior to starting the tour you have to have a shower to wash off any insect repellent and sun cream and the water to the shower serves as an indication of the temperature in the caves - wetsuits were taken after exposure to the water!
The 4-star rating is because of the experience and the guide. What went with it wasn't always perfect. The wetsuits are in some cases ill-fitting with mine having been previously worn by someone with a massive gut who stretched it out. However they served the purpose. The buffet served afterwards was pretty revolting to the point of us deciding to wait and have food back at our hotel. The biggest bugbear is what many others have noted which is photography and the lack thereof. We were completely fine with the rationale of not taking personal cameras in with us for safety reasons and with having pictures taken by photographers on the way. However, there was no way we were going to pay $25 for the best one or approaching $100 for a set; that's just too much money for staged pictures with slightly awkward poses in ill-fitting wetsuits and squished faces from our helmetsresponse / report this review -

An incredible and unique other worldly experience. It's easily one of the coolest places I've ever seen. Our guide was excellent. She was extremely knowledgeable about the caves, answered all our questions and did a great job with our mixed language (English and Spanish) group. This tour includes a jungle hike and a moderate amount of physical ability to navigate the uneven and slippery surfaces in the caves. There are places where you'll be in water over your head and you'll have to squeeze through a few narrow passages but for me, those things added to the adventure. You'll be supplied with a wet suit, water shoes, life jacket and helmet with a lamp. At no time did I feel claustrophobic or worried about my safety.

Very fun, unique, and natural! Loved that the river itself wasn't detracted from by man-made installations. Other caves I've toured have had concrete walkways, railing, light fixtures, etc. But not Río Secreto—it was awesome!

So much fun!! Very disappointed that we couldn't take a waterproof camera in since I've seen other people post pictures with theirs. The professional pictures were not worth the price. Other than that, our guide Andres was funny and the food was good!

It was a great experience a very wonderful place to visit, however our guide wasn't very talkative and she didn't explain much We loved the experience, but to be honest, we were sad to hear the prices for the pictures. Most of our group didn't take them because it was too expensive. 30USD for all pictures would've been fine, but 60USD? Way too expensive

This is a very interesting and unique place, an actual underground cave you get to swim through. The guides are friendly and knowledgeable. The food is good. But one thing kind of tainted the experience for me..
I understand the restrictions with the cameras, but the pricing for the photos is a bit predatory in my opinion. $25 for a single picture or $100 for them all? Perhaps if you cut that rate in half, you'd sell more than twice as much? It's just too much. Considering how much people paid to get to this place, only to be shaken down for actual evidence you were there, seems kind of offensive.response / report this review -

I was very skeptical about doing this under ground cave activity. Especially, being 6 feet tall and a heavy guy. i read lot of reviews and finally decided to go. Our guide, Nadia was very knowledgeable. We did enjoy going through caves and swimming in the water. This activity does require a basic knowledge of swimming. One thing that could have been better was, that the group size was 9-10 people. So in instances where the guide was talking and walking, it was a little difficult to hear . Although, guide made every effort to rotate people in line so no one person is first always. Also, one fair disclaimer, there were pictures that rocks are shinning. That is if you are luck to have so much calcium deposits. We went in December and there was minimal reflection. Overall, I do recommend this adventure. They are very kid friendly too. Other groups with kids also had fun.
