My experience at OCC has been incredibly positive. From the very beginning to the end, I have been impressed with their attention to detail and the level of care I have received, surpassing any other healthcare experience I have had in both the U.S. and Canada. Although I was incredibly nervous about undergoing surgery, the medical staff at OCC did an excellent job of easing my worries through their attentive and comforting conversations. Additionally, I was able to form a strong bond with other bariatric patients who were also scheduled for surgery that day. Their support and encouragement greatly helped me feel confident in my decision to undergo the procedure. After the operation, the OCC team continued to provide excellent care by ensuring that I was both active and getting the rest I needed. With round-the-clock monitoring, they meticulously tracked our liquid levels and provided support for any post-operative nausea.

The hotel we stayed at after surgery was fantastic. They went above and beyond to accommodate my needs, providing chicken broth and popsicles constantly at no additional expense. This was incredibly helpful in ensuring I maintained my liquid intake.

On my last day, I underwent a barium swallow test to check for any leaks in my sleeve. It was reassuring to observe the X-ray in real-time and confirm that there were no signs of leakage while drinking liquid. Following the test, I was transported back to San Diego airport, and I must say that the transport service was exceptional. We were granted access to the express lane at the border designated for individuals who have undergone medical procedures. What would typically be a tiresome and time-consuming process to cross the border turned out to be a brief and hassle-free experience for us.

Overall, the team at OCC transformed what initially seemed daunting and scary into a positive and life-changing experience. And I can’t thank the OCC team and my fellow gastric sleeve sisters enough.

I had the surgery and everyone said dr. Ortiz did the surgery but he never once introduced himself to me. Never came to my room after surgery to check on me. Dr. Martinez came to me before surgery but he said he was the assistant surgeon. Everything went smooth except I didn’t get a follow up visit from the surgeon to let me know how the surgery went. I would have liked to discuss if my liver was fatty or just a quick follow up visit from the surgeon would have been nice. When they gave me the anesthesia none of the surgeons were there, just the anesthesiologist, nurses and music. As far as I’m concerned a nurse did my surgery lol while jamming to bachata.

As a registered nurse (staff can confirm) who works on the medical/surgical (medsurg) taking care of pts after surgery, even weight loss surgery, I feel that I received the best medical care possible at Obesity Control Center.

I chose OCC based on flawless reviews. I also knew that it must be a stellar surgery center because UC San Diego has a partnership with OCC. That’s huge. For UC San Diego school of medicine, one of the top medical schools in the world, to affiliate themselves with OCC they have got to be legitimate.

I had never been to Mexico before, don’t know Spanish and felt very safe during the entire process. Everyone from the drivers, to the front desk, nurses and of course surgeons, the cafe ladies were top notch at their work. Not once did I feel unsafe.

I met with the dietician, 3 internal medicine Drs, many nurses, radiology, pharmacist, anesthesiologist , both surgeons Dr Martinez and Dr. Ortiz, constant communication with front desk regarding pick up times and such. That’s probably not even all. I’m telling you these people are the best of the best. It’s not hype. You will never receive care like this in the United States.

And the nurses were so impressive as well. I feel like I learned from their example as well. I will incorporate their professionalism and attentiveness back home. I was the sick one this time so now I know what is is like. And they were very attentive to me post op.

One time I was in the bathroom after the surgery and not feeling good. I was praying they would come check on me and sure enough the nurse knocked on the door. I was so grateful she knew I was feeling sick and came to check on me and gave me reassurance that I was going to be ok.

If I had the opportunity to do the surgery over at my hospital here in the United States vs. OCC, I would absolutely choose OCC.

I feel that the medical system in the United States is very broken and is absolutely run by shady insurance companies and lawsuits. They don’t care about the patient, they only care about the profit. It’s sad the state of our hospitals, TRUST me. Coming to Mexico and paying a reasonable price, you can bypass all that red tape and get the best of medical care available.

I recommend my family too to come to OCC. My husband is deciding if he wants to get WLS. And my sister (who is a registered nurse as well) wanted to see my experience first. After my amazing experience, I will definitely recommend my sister and husband to come only to OCC for surgery.

From booking to surgery and post op, I cannot say enough about OCC. The staff and doctors were absolutely amazing and I felt 100% safe at all times. The facility was also top notch, I was so comfortable the entire time.

OCC was very clean, and super mindful with regards to screening and Covid 19 precautions. Dr. Ortiz and his team are top notch professional and extremely knowledgeable when it comes to all things gastrointestinal. Unlike healthcare in the States, you actually can call, email or message someone from OCC and they respond in a timely manner.

I had surgery for the sleeve last week. I had such a wonderful experience from start to finish. With the Covid pandemic it definitely made things more complicated for the surgery center staff, hotel staff, and all involved. With all the obstacles and additional tests required it ran so smoothly from start to finish. The staff & Doctors were wonderful. I would recommend OCC 100% to anyone. Thanks OCC for giving me a new start.

I just finished my procedure for the G sleeve last week. I can't say enough good about Dr. Ortiz and his clinic. This was a big decision for me and I was headed to a different clinic until my brother who is a P.A. researched all this and said you have to go to OCC I'm so thankful he did. I am recovering and had a few questions about feeling a little lite headed. I got a phone call from Dr Ortiz this morning and multiple helpful emails from his staff. Thank you OCC your the best.

I got my VSG on 9/2/19. Dr. Ortiz and the Obesity Control Center gave me my life back and I will be forever thankful. The staff is helpful and friendly, the doctors are amazing, and the facility is pristine. I was scared and didn't know what to expect, but the minute I got there I realized I had made the best decision of my life. Post surgery I encountered some health issues (not because of surgery but how my body reacted) and months of going to doctors at home got me no where. Every step of the way doctors at OCC were emailing, calling, and reaching out seeing how they could help. They asked me to come back so they could run tests, and within hours I was feeling better. I will tell anyone who listens how going to OCC in Mexico was the best thing I could have ever done. My brother got it done the same day and both of us have seen positive changes in our lives in major ways.

In 2015 my primary care physician suggested I consider weight loss surgery. I was sort of devastated (and obviously in denial as I weighed in at 206 pounds), but he had just diagnosed me with diabetes and I could no longer avoid the fact that my weight was killing me. I researched my options and decided on OCC. It was the best decision of my life. I'm almost 5 years out and have not regretted it a single day since. I lost over 70 pounds and feel like I got my life back. The experience was great and having it done in Mexico was a non-issue. The clinic is beautiful and the staff is extraordinarily helpful at every step of the journey. Two months after I had my surgery (at age 55), I took my 70-year-old mom to OCC to have her sleeve done. They treated her like a queen. I wish I could get the kind of care I received at OCC here in the USA! I can't recommend them highly enough.
