My husband and I decided to take the Playa del Carma shopping trip. When we signed up they told us that we would be stopping at Matis for 45 minutes for a tour of the jewellery factory, then shuttled to the tiquilla store next door for 30 minutes tour and tast and then head to 5th Avenue for some typical tourist shops. Being told all this when you sign up and still feel that you have been swindled, then there is no reason for you to complain. We had a great experience looking around the store. Our sales person , Teo, was great. We never felt presured into buying anything and when we had questions or thinking of purchasing he gladly put the item on a tray, let me try it on, and let me inspect it. Never did he make us do anything we didn't want to. When I said no he never pushed the sale. He even took us into the real gold and diamonds room to see if I could find a ring like my engagement ring that I had lost about a year ago. We found one and he offered it to us for a great price. I didnt get that ring because I wasnt 100% sure that I really liked it. He tried to get it to a lower price from his manager and he did. I said no. I really liked the ring but I didnt Love it. Teo and his manager understood and didnt push it any further. We bought two silver rings (and they sized them on the spot) with precious stones and thanked us for stopping in and looking at all their merchandise. We continued on our shopping trip and had a great time. We may or may not have paid a little more for the silver rings, but this can happen anywhere in the world, even in your own home town. So for those that say they have been scammed, its your own fault for being so ignorant. A simple and nice 'No Thank you' with a smile or 'I am not interested' will do. If they ask again just say no thank you again and walk awayand this happens even at your local jewellery store. If you didnt want ti look at the jewellry then you should have stayed in the lobby.

They have great jewelry and i bought and earing but i am concerned about the quality after reading some reviews. I hope it will be pure silver like they mentioned. Although their sales people are very pushy, they went as far as to let me take the jewelry with me before paying full because I clearly mentioned that i didn't bring credit card with me and all i had was pesos and needed it to shop. They came to my hotel at the end of the day to get the remaining balance. For the jewelry and designs I would give them 3 stars but pushy sales and quality I might have to take away two stars. Will update the review later to see how the quality of the jewelry turned out.

Good selection of stones set in silver and gold. Be sure to shop around before you step into this location to make sure that you are getting a good bargain. Prices are advertised to be 60-70% of the MSRP. They also had leather jackets and rugs including silk rugs if that tickles your fancy but again know the market before you go in.

Good variety of items to choose from, however the sales pressure is too high.

Booked the Tulum shopping tour, this was the first stop, you have no choice but to go in and look around. Seemed like a scam and the stuff seemed fake and overpriced. Very uncomfortable vibe.

I was forced to come to this place with my resort before heading to a shopping trip in Playa del Carmen. I was not in the mood to spend any money, as I really had little to spend, so this was just a waste of time for me and less time spent at the beach, although Guillermo-William was a great guy, didn't pressure me to buy anything, and was very professional. They were talking about their great prices, but coming from Canada, and everything being priced in US dollars, I wasn't about to spend 500$ on a bracelet. Even if it were a good price, some rings I saw seemed very hollow and didn't weigh much.

WARNING: I was ready to buy a Topaz ring and bracelet for my wife and when I asked to see the stones with a glass they refused. When I said I would not buy it without looking at they handed my wife her free token necklace and said good bye. What are they hiding? He had a definite sale and lost it. BE CAREFULL HERE

I just wanted to write a review on the experience that my wife and I had visiting Matis in Playa Del Carmen on Nov 9, 2016. My wife is Celiac and during our stay at one of the resorts this November she ended up having an allergic reaction to some thing she ate. Her fingers started to swell up and we tried everything to get her wedding rings off but we failed. The resort manager and the on site jeweler tried everything to help as well and it was finally decided that we needed to cut the rings off.

The jeweler advised he did not have the equipment to help us but advised he use to work at Matis down the road and they have the people and equipment to help. The Resort manager called Matis they advised no problem come on down and they could help us out.

The Resort manager called us a Taxi and sent a staff member with us to Matis where we meet one of the managers explained our situation and called one of his jewelers over to help. We ended up cutting off all 3 wedding bands, my wife was in tears with joy from having the pressure of the rings removed from her finger.

The manager advised us to relax offered us something to drink and to have a seat in the building as the jeweler would attend to the rings. We sat down and relaxed for a while than we decided to look around the store which has a lot to look at.

We never had anyone come up to us and try and sell us anything if we had questions one of the staff answered our questions we spent about an hour and half at the store while the jeweler worked on my wife's rings.

The manager check on us several time to see if we needed anything and once the rings had been repaired he walked them over showed us the repaired rings they looked like new. The repaired and cleaned them for us placed them in to a nice little bag and thanked us of attending.

I spoke with the manager asked how much we owed them for the work the walked my wife and I over the front door shook our hands and said thank you for coming no need for any payment.

My wife was so happy she gave the manager a hug and we thanked him and his staff for helping us out.

I wish I would of gotten the managers name as well the jewelers to thank them both on this review but I simply forgot but thank you to both for making our really bad day on our vacation in to a really great day again.

Thank you again form Len and Loriann.

Forced to go through this place - I feel ripped off. If your resort offers a free tour to tulum or something similar, be sure you will be stuck here for a long time with someone harassing you to purchase from the moment you walk through the door. The trick is that this jewelry factory owns the shuttles so they take you wherever they want.
