Arrived at 2:30. Room wasn’t ready until 4:30 but then once we got our room on the 19th floor, key didn’t work. There are only 3 elevators which take a very long time. Went down to get key fixed just to come back up to key still not working. Had to wait again for the elevator to go back down to get help. Didn’t get into the room until at about 5:15. Room was okay but bed was very uncomfortable. Also don’t recommend any of the drinks. Went through almost the whole drink menu and didn’t find one drink I liked. Food was decent but breakfast is chaos since many big families go and only one buffet is open for breakfast. Only reason I give it a 3 rather than 2 is because I would recommend it for families with kids. If you are looking for a place to relax, I would not recommend.

Really clean hotel! The beach is a bit on the dangerous side and the lifeguards are really strict. The food is good and the environment is refreshing except for the nightclub! The nightclub is right beside the family suites and they have their music on so loud that it's hard to fall asleep. Also, the room keys kept deactivating after they had cleaned the room. The drinks were so good and the waiters were friendly.

Hotel infrastructure is outstanding!!! Nice (but not great)rooms, food is abundant and of acceptable quality, but not great cocktails are made with a premixed type of juices which come with a not very pleasant chemical aftertaste swimming pools are nice but were overcrowded all the time that we were thereno "adults only” pools

If you are expecting a quiet and relaxing vacation, this is NOT the place to go!! This hotel hosts over 4000 people!! consequently, the pools, bars , restaurants are extremely busy. The ocean tide is very strong.(flag is permanently red) I checked with the hotel staff and was told that in the past few years they have never seen the green flag for ocean swiming so, you can get into the water, at your own riskand last- but far from least- the waiting time for elevators is UNACCEPTABLE!!! Be prepared to wait 15+ minutes during peak times.

Definitely not worth it!! You will be paying for a frustrating and disappointing experience!!

Had a great stay here! This was our first time at this Riu and we're not disappointed - very welcoming staff when we arrived. The accomodations were a little dated but still quite nice. Great options for food, the Mexican and Asian restaurants were very good. Sergio was a fantastic server, he waited on us several times and was amazing! Will be back for sure!

This was my first time coming to the Riu in Mazatlan so relaxing and fun environment. The staff are very friendly and they are on top on
meeting your needs. I felt safe despite the covid pandemic happening. All staff are wearing face masks and the guests are obedient on wearing them, other then when we are eating or swimming. I will be .coming again soon. :)

Food was decent but nothing really stood out in the buffet. However, the service throughout the hotel is amazing and the rooms are very clean. The toilets don't flush really well lol. The pools were great and the beach view is gorgeous. All the rooms have an ocean view. It's not in the main part of town which makes it feel very safe. Had a blast here.

A very well organised and perfect place for family vacation. Food is great and rooms are amazing. Property is beautiful, clean and large. Tons of activities and verity. The only thing that keeps me from giving it 5 stars is how long it takes to get an elevator at some times throughout the day.

Great place, great staff - lively and super friendly.

Why 4 stars instead of 5?

There was a couple of minor issues, one involving an excursion for zip lining, where approx 15 people were crammed into a van that wasn't running, for about 45 minutes, with no communication as to what was going on.

The most frustrating issue is the hotel's elevator system.

There are 3 elevators on each side the hotel (6 in total) that span every floor (there an additional elevator on each side that does not go down to the bottom floor, where the beach and all the restaurants are located). They are all small elevators, each holding a maximum of 10 people, if crammed in. You could be waiting a VERY long time for an elevator here. Many times (most times), we've watched as the elevator mysteriously skipped our floor as it's going down. When one finally stopped, it was often completely jammed packed.

On the positive side, we did get more exercise as we opted for the stairs more often.

Patience is certainly an asset here.

Apart from these minor frustrations, we had an absolutely GREAT time and would definitely recommend this hotel to friends.

I vacationed here in November 2017. I loved this hotel . The food was awesome best I’ve had at a Riu hotel . Nice beach. Never had a problem getting sun chairs for the day. Hotel was clean and well kept . We upgraded our room a day after check in because the room we were given on check in was close to the huge exhaust fans from the hotels ventilation System which were so loud you could not speak with or shouting to hear the other person if you wanted to spend time on the patio. And in the basics rooms the beds had plastic or rubber mattress covers which we found very uncomfortable. My brother asked that they be taken off the bed in his room. But other then that I can’t say anything too negative I have been to a few different resorts in Mexico but his one has been my favourite so far .

We went here for a family vacation and it was beautiful. The food was great. There was a few different pools. Some are cooler than others. The kids area was fantastic and the water was warm. We went in February and there was a carnival happening so there was a lot of nationals there for the weekend. When we first got there, it was nice and calm. They had amazing nights bbq on the beach. The beach itself was red flagged the whole time we were there. The waves were strong and the ocean was not the turquoise colour most people look for. But it was great and I enjoyed it fully.

Good service, poor food. No instant hand sanitizer in the cafeteria, this we got sick. It ruined the trip.

You have all to get your fridge restocked with water.

So by all inclusive they mean what? Maybe it's a 5 star hotel by 3rd world standards.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE! THIS PLACE IS DISGUSTING!
We just returned from an 8 day stay at this resort, and if I could give 0 stars. I would.

    Where to begin?
    1. BED BUGS in the rooms. My husband is an exterminator by trade and confirmed that both our room and our friends room had serious bedbug activity. The mattresses, the headboards, in the crown molding, EVERYWHERE.

    2. They don't wash the sheets. Upon check in, we discovered pubic hair and blood in our bed. When we asked for new sheets it took over 2 hours for them to be brought to our room. They were not changed again the entire time we were there. We also had blood stains on our curtain sheers.

We asked for new rooms and were taken to look at 8 rooms. EVERY SINGLE ONE of which had even worse bed bug activity and some even wreaked of smoke even though they claim to be non smoking.

    3. Mold growing in the pool tiles and in the showers. We only saw the pool being cleaned once over the course of 8 days- we had a room that overlooked the pools.

    4. It takes an army to even get bottled water at this place! They have signs all over saying not to drink the tap water. They give you a few bottles in your mini bar (when they get around to re-stocking it) and if you ask for more anywhere on the resort they tell you that you need to get it from your room. We ran out of water daily and had to call several times and wait 3+ hours to get it brought up to us. On one of the last days here, we had called down asking for more water and they told us No because we had already gotten some that day. I don't know about you, but I prefer to drink more than 16 oz of water a day when I am out in the sun for hours on end.

    5. The food is especially terrible and borderline un-safe to eat. Certain dishes were left out for days. The bartender at the pool bar made a drink for us that had a bug in it- when he saw the bug he just reached his finger in the cup and removed it and handed it over to us. At dinner, it was hard to even find a clean plate. They looked rinsed off at best and some even still had chunks of food on them, same with the cups at the bar.

    6. Bees everywhere! We were constantly batting at bees and were even stung a few times. This is more of an environmental thing but just added to the overall annoyance.

I wish we would have saved our money and skipped this trip entirely.

    Review being written after first night's stay;
The rooms are wonderful with an amazing view. Fully stocked mini fridge, easy to work safe, and a nice bed. I have yet to check out the gym but I'm gonna head there today, it's a seperate building and looks pretty big already however. Gorgeous beach, however there is a LOT of vendors. Can't make it out to the water without being pestered by at least two vendors. Its not too big of a deal but sometimes you just wanna take in the view or whatever. Not the Hotel's fault.

My boyfriend and I have stayed at the Riu Emerald Bay twice now, and both of our visits have been absolutely wonderful. The food is delicious and varied, and even includes vegetarian options; every meal offers an excellent array of dishes to satisfy any craving. The rooms are well maintained and very clean, as is the entire hotel itself. The beach is gorgeous and beautifully kept. Best of all, the staff are friendly, genuine and welcoming. Everyone we have encountered is polite and cheerful, and we have made some great friends while staying here. 😊 My boyfriend and I look forward to seeing all of the familiar faces when we return again and again. Thank you for making our visits to this beautiful country so enjoyable and memorable. We can't wait to come back soon! 🇲🇽

Hotel was horrible. I'll admit I'm picky about hotels, but this one was pretty bad. The bed was stiff as a rock and the sheets were dirty and stained. The shower had mold growing on the roof. The food was disgusting. Re-warmed and re-purposed foods. If you have low expectations for hotel room and food, great place. Staff was friendly, only positive. Pool was very dirty, when asked bartender where bathroom was, he said we were standing in it : (

This was my first time to Mazatlan and we will definitely be back hopefully sooner than later. RIU Emerald Bay was a great experience.
The staff members were AWESOME and all so polite and very helpful. They all made you feel so welcome like family.
Luis, the bartender at The Sports Bar is the Best ever. Fantastic person.
Larissa who handles entertaining was a lot of fun. I hand no plans on doing water aerobics but got sucked in by watch how much fun everyone was having. I smiled the whole way through it and couldn't wait to do it again the next day. Great place to stay
Mazatlan itself was a great experience

Worst hotel I have ever stayed.
Bad customer service. Take it or leave attitude. I reserve a two bedroom room and I got a king size ? This was a wide spread issue because many guest encounter the same problem. WiFi not available in rooms unless you pay.
Elevator is unreliable at all times.
Not air conditioning at the front of desk or the stage area for the night shows so makes it very uncomfortable.
Drinks are horrible and they make them with the worst vodka, tequila, etc.
Sports bar equipped with the 42" TV. Pool tables , hockey table and futbolito..tableyou need to pay to use them. (Why they advertise this hotel as all inclusive). Activities are the same every day.

The beach is awesome and the hotel is really nice. Their personal is friendly and are always looking make you feel comfortable. This is a large hotel, every place in there is always crowded so you need to be patient in some situations like for use the elevators, get a spot near the pool or be seated for have your meals but overall I think is acceptable.
The food is just good, nothing special, they must improve a lot on this point. The same for the drinks served in the pool area.
My mayor complain is that you lost signal on the cellphone in most of the hotel areas, so you are unable to get in contact as need.
In general, I spend a very good and relaxing vacations at Riu Mazatlan with some opportunities for improvement

Great place along with a great view. Food is the same every day but other wise it's great. Beach is a great place to take your kids in the afternoon. As soon as I left my room with the "clean my room please" I came back an hour later cleaned up. Entertainment at night is always enjoyable. Would recommend to anyone looking for a nice hotel in Mazatlan

It's an excellent hotel and great service. A couple of sins, in my opinion, may be that it charges you to play table hockey, pool and table football. It seems like an odd micro transaction in an overall pretty complete game. Another thing is that the pool is exactly the same height (around 1.40m) everywhere. For someone like me that likes deep pools this seems kind of a letdown. Still, both are pretty small things when considering the great service, staff and perks of staying in the hotel. Most people probably won't even notice those things
