  I cannot say enough wonderful things about Genesis. The place is gorgeous beyond words, the owner and all the staff are so helpful and happy to be there, and it was just the escape we needed. Day trips to Valladolid, Ek Balam and the cenotes (oh, those cenotes!) ensure you're never bored, and you can recover from you exhausting excursions with hammock time or a dip in the Genesis pool. One thing: some of the tourist info in their book needs to be updated, but usually you can figure things out by talking to the staff. They are always super happy to help!

  Amazing respite from suburban and urban life. This place is definitely off the beaten path, located in a rural Mayan community. A couple of super-modest grocery stores are a block away. A Swiss man owns a large compound across the way. Swanky!!
  
  If you don't mind the lack of AC, power outages (during our December 2017 visit, the utility pole caught fire, sparks were flying at night and part of the building was scorched), dogs fighting at night (one dog was getting his butt whipped by other canines) and an amazing chorus of nature sounds you will love this place.
  
  Some rooms are basically screened in porches, while others are significantly more upscale. You pay for a "better breakfast" and dinner was excellent. My wife and I met some great folks there. The owner, an American expat, was a fabulous host.
  
  A half an hour away is the amazing colonial town of Valladolid. Excellent restaurants, shopping and neighborhoods. Close by (less than 10 miles) are several smaller towns with shopping and restaurants.
  
  Shopping Tip: Genesis is located in a village known for weaving hammocks. You will save 75% by buying direct.

  Lee and her staff has made me fall in love with the sleepy town of Ek-Balam. We stayed in the bird house for 2 nights and it was a special experience. Lee provided us with loads of information and set us out on the chocolate making tour. I highly recommend it. At night Gloria cooked us a feast of food. Amazing time.

  A truly beautiful hotel! Off the beaten path, the hotel is quiet and full of lovely garden charm. Gloria cooked us dinner and it was unbelievable. Ask for her empanadas! They are the best we've had in Mexico! We stayed in the Birdhouse room, and it was perfect! The swing bed was super comfortable, and having a private outdoor shower was a fun experience. The hotel has rescued birds and dogs, and all the dogs are super cute and super sweet! We loved our stay here and highly recommend it! Lee makes check in and check out very easy!

  Truly a magical place. Unlike anything I've ever seen before. Each room is unique but somehow everything seems cohesive. Parrots, rabbits and dogs live in harmony and frogs sing you to sleep.

  Amazing off the Beaten Path Retreat. The rooms are not the usual hotel type. Each room is unique and wonderful. We are in the bamboo room. The staff is better than any five star hotel as they do all they can to make you comfortable. Today we went to a traditional Mayan home in the village and made sipping chocolate and corn tortillas from scratch. What a wonderful experience. This place is a unique experience that should not be missed. Oh, the food is prepared by Gloria and is some of the best in Mexico. Lee, thanks for a life changing, fun, and peaful experience.

  The location was remote which is what we were looking for. The rooms were clean and bathroom was better then expected. Not being able to flush toilet paper isn't as bad as one might think. The biggest issue was just that they had animals running around the restaurant where they were serving food. The belong to the owner and she says they're clean, but it can be a turn off for some. Overall a great experience.

  Genesis is a delightful immersion into living in the middle of a Mayan village. It also has the feeling of an international hostel with interesting travellers coming and going, each seeking to quench that irresistible need to experience the world beyond offices, wifi and big box stores. Food is great. Gloria attempts to accommodate a lot of special dietary requests and often comes up with some very tasty surprises. All local. Just one note: you gotta like dogs. Lee has an ongoing dog rescue program and shelters a few dogs in need here.

  A good place to stay, nice owner. Close to good places to visit, with it's own resident naturalist, Jim Conrad. Close to Valladolid.
