One of the cheapest, quietest and best ruins we visited whilst in Mexico. Entrance is only 70 Pesos. The ruins are well preserved and you are able to climb most of them. If you have the chance skip Chetzen Itza and come here you won't regret it!
After visiting some of the more popular ruins, this place was a breath of fresh air. Hardly anyone here, so you can take your time and explore at your own pace. Most of the park is open to explore with very few spots off limits. Highly recommended if you are the type of visitor that enjoys peace and quiet.
Highlight of our trip! This site has gorgeous remains, well kept surroundings and lots of information about the architecture and culture. And moreover: there are not many visitors at the same time, making it a very chill experience.
Excellent, beautiful jungle setting without too many tourists, even during high season. Fantastic birding in the surrounding jungle. There isn't anywhere nearby to stay, but the site welcomes you to camp along the road into the ruins, right outside the entrance gate. The site has guards that patrol it all night and we felt very safe, and parrots woke us up in the morning, which is always a treat for a bird watcher!
According to my personal taste, Edzna is the second best archaeological site in Yucatan after Uxmal. Pretty far fro the beaten path is easy to reach if you plan to spend one or two days in Merida. Totally worth the effort.
Edzna means "House of the Itza" and is located 60 km S.E, of Campeche, luckily not too many tourist stop here, which makes your discovery even more awesome. Some of these guys appear to be wearing "glasses" (?).
Almost no tourists/people around there. I would definitely prefer this before citchen itza
Great! Not overrun by tourists as the other Maya sites more north. It's possible to go by public colectivo bus from Campeche (40pesos) and takes 50 mins. The colectivo leaves in Campeche eastern of the main market on the street named chihuahua. To return there are passing colectivos on the street 200m from the site entrance every 30mins.
One of the better archeological sites in mexico. We have been to a lot in the yucatan.
It's amazing, the greatness of the mayan culture and in Edzna you can see it.
Is important to know this place is bigger and you have to walk a lot!
If you have student ID is for free.
Loved it! There were few tourists onsite which was great for taking amazing pictures.
It was a much more enjoyable experience for me than going to the chichen itza, it's much more tranquil, and some of it is over 2000 years old. It gets very hot here though and so be prepared!
Excellent place with OK facilities, the buildings are stunning. If you are near the zone you should definitive put in your to do list.
Mexico have a lot to offer, will you take it?
If you are in Campeche city, you could use public transportation to get to this place. You can google it.
Love it! this is the first mayan temple I have been to where the king lived there. Elvis is an excellent tour guide. We did not bring water because we thought we could get at Edzna, BYO because nothing there. only soda machine, $10 pesos for a coke.
