The Na Bolom Museum was the former home of an archeologist named Frans Blom and his wife. He was one of the first to excavate the ruins of Palenque in the Chiapas jungle and his wife photographed and documented the daily lives of the indigenous Lacandon Maya people in this region.
The museum is set around a central courtyard in the building with rooms around it where you can find artifacts, photos, and information about the Maya people and the Bloms’ work to preserve the jungle and its peoples. Some of the plaques were in English and it was very interesting to learn about the history and people of this area and see the photos and artifacts. I had an enjoyable afternoon at this museum.
Behind the museum, there was a large and beautiful tropical garden with a variety of jungle plants, trees and flowers native to the region and walking paths winding through the vegetation. I loved walking through there and appreciating the diverse plant life! It felt like I was in the middle of the jungle and definitely not in the city. It was a wonderful and peaceful place to escape and wander around.response / report this review -

muy bien! If you're into private collections this is a fascinating Mayan exhibition focused on the Chiapas' mayan culture / history. be sure not to miss the impressive library and the introductory video in the ticket purchase area across the street from the main grounds.

Beautiful building. It is like going to someone's house. The garden is peaceful and the museum is really interesting. Pictures and artifacts from Lacondon people are shown here. A little bit pricey 60 pesos entrance fee.

Unusual and interesting museum. Rooms filled with an eclectic collection of art, sculpture and artifacts from local Mayan tribes. Also, photographic portraits of celebrities from the time. Well worth the small admission.

Nice house distant from the touristic area. It is the house of Danish explorers who came to Chiapas to study indigenous inhabitants of the area.
I didn't take a tour in, but entrance was free and I just walked around the place. It seems to be also an inn, so you must be respectful as a visitor.
Also, it works as some kind of beneficent foundation, I could find some organic plantation of vegetables near a very beautiful garden with local plants.
The house as a museum exhibits antique objects from the time the owners explored the area, as well as beautiful photographies and paintings.
There is a cafe, which helps you enjoy even more the location.response / report this review -

This museum its the contained obsession of a Danish explorer and his wife with Chiapas and its people. Its beautiful, engaging and unique. It feels like you are walking through the house of very cultured people. Totally worth it

Beautiful house and gardens, very interesting museum. Food is tasty, but basic and a little overpriced. However, the fact that this helps to support the foundation makes up for that.

an old mansion of the ruling elite in san cristobal converted into a museum celebrating the wild lives of franz and trudy blom. recently a change of administration has brought years of misuse to a screeching halt. the new administration is both honest and dedicated to making na bolom once again a center of caring, conservation and information for all. go.

This is a place you have to visit while in San Cris. You'll fina a lot of interesting information about the history of this town and the Selva Lacandona. It could benefit of a better maintenance and a guided tour. Be sure to bring cash to buy some handcrafts from the locals selling there.
