Beautiful place with limited choice of food but good and service was good too. Small selection of wine but not so bad. Expensive for what you get but worth it for the decor. You can visit the caves and there are private tables for a romantic diner. Must try!!!

Completely mislead into paying an extremely expensive bill!
I dined here with my partner a couple of weeks ago which was meant to be the highlight of our trip. Such a shame as the atmospheric caves are amazing. We were informed upon taking our seats that unfortunately there was no duck so instead the dish & sides remained the same but with a replacement meat (pheasant). This was chosen and after one hour our food arrived. The pheasant was grizzly, boney and chewy. Not pleasant at all. The biggest shock was that this meal with the 'replacement' meat was more than twice as much as the original dish!! We were not informed of this and felt completely deceived and knowingly mislead. We were even informed that the duck always runs out so Alux makes hundreds from their chewy pheasant without a price label on the menu!! I am not one to cause a fuss in any restaurant but felt completely pressured into paying an extortionate bill at Alux.response / report this review -

Amazing restaurant in the caves, very cozy and cool decoration. Fantastic service, an absolute must if you like drinking great wine and high quality food. Ordered salmon with garlic mashed potatoes, must try! You go down in the wine cellar to pick your own wine, nice touch!

Restaurant is very cool, really vast cave network Can book little private tables further in. Food was very good but the service was pretty poor. We were there for 45 minutes before we got to make our order, the waiter brought our wine eventually after a half hour but then after I asked him to open it he said he had other people to serve first. Haha. Had to get another waiter to come over and open it for us. Hopefully it's just the one waiter, everyone else seemed really good. Would definitely recommend.

Fantastic place with amazing ambience for a romantic dinner. The portions are really small though. But the quality of food is pretty good. But you should mainly go here for it's ambience. You can even walk around the cave and take pictures while waiting for the food. It'll surprise you just house big the place is and how intricate caves are.

Very unique. They have small isolated romantic tables. The food was delivered cold twice and raw twice. Once cooked it was nothing special and the portions smaller than a child’s portion at other restaurants. They offer you distilled water when you enter not advising you the small bottle of water is 60 Pesos until the check arrives and their beer is the same price or cheaper. The service was annoying as they constantly reached across to straighten silverware the entire meal. Unique but not enjoyable.

The food was good, and fairly priced for its creativity. I was last here in 2005 and they have improved the dining experience a lot :) Can't rate 5 stars though We paid extra to be in one of the private areas, which they did do a few nice things for us but they waited until after they seated us and let us sit for 5 to 10 minutes before turning the air conditioner on, and it's WARM AND HUMID in there! Also, the bread was served cold and sort of damp, as was the tortilla shells which housed our appetizers - those tidbits should be warm and CRUNCHY, not clammy!

Interesting experience dining in a cave to
a DJ playing house music. The food quality and high prices were a let down. We had the King Crab starter which was tasty. The steak was terrible, not cooked to order or evenly and really chewy. The indigenous Mayan characters out front encouraging photos make it feel like a cheesy tourist trap.response / report this review -

We went here because we heard that the setting was stunning and it was. The cenotes are lovely and the seating is spread out throughout meaning that there is plenty of space. Once we were taken to our seat we were allowed to wonder round the entire cavern which was great.
The food was delicious if a little expensive and the cocktails were lovely clearly made to taste good not just for strength. It seemed a lot more refined than a lot of what we saw in Playa del Carmen.
I would definitely recommend going here if you are interested in the cenotes or if you are looking for a classier meal.response / report this review -

The location, the food and the staff are all top notch. You're dinning in a underground cave, and then the food, delicious. I had surf and turf with a lobster bisque soup. If it's my last meal, I'll die happy. Our waiter was funny and courteous. It's a bit pricey, but well worth it. It'll be a bit warm and humid due to active stalactites.

The most unique underground cave restaurant with many different private areas for parties. My wife and I celebrated our wedding reception here. A must see for all those who visit Playa del Carmen.

We visited this very unique restaurant on a Saturday evening. The ambience is amazing, worth the trip by itself. The food is smaller portions, and somewhat of an eclectic menu so be prepared. The service was excellent. The wine grotto is unique however, a small selection of wines. All in, it's a must see. Enjoy!

A real gem in the rough. Totally unexpected and worth it. Developed part of the cave is really a treat and the waiter was glad to share some history and show us some of the unlit rooms. It's warm and humid outside the dining rooms and bars, so be prepared. Main dining areas and bars are air conditioned and comfortable. The cave goes on forever, it seems. Way different. One of the best experiences in dining ever!

Worth going just for the experience of being in the beautiful decorated cave structure. Very theatrical in an understated way. You wouldn't be surprised to see the Phantom of the Opera appear. But thankfully they have not gone that route. The food also lives up to the quality of the setting.

Really enjoyed the food and atmosphere with my 2 lovely teenage granddaughters. Food combination was unusual and beautifully presented. 2 of us ordered a salad with seared tuna- wonderful and the salmon that was ordered was delicious.We 3 enjoyed everything and would return. The 3 chocolate mousse that we shared was scrumptious.

I've never eaten at a restaurant in an underground cave before. So this unique experience is well worth the cost. The food was okay. The air was a bit humid, but what do you expect from a cave in the jungle. I would definitely recommend eating here at least once. The cocktails are really good.
