Over a work trip to Lilongwe, I had a weekend free. I was desirous of seeing wildlife and escaping the city, and not spending too long in a car. I chose to go to Kasungu National Park and stay at Lifupa Lodge and it was the best decision I made on the entire trip. There are several choices for accommodation at Lifupa, all of which are quite nice and have a lot of the 'African charm'. I stayed in a rondavel though tents and safari-huts are available with slightly less convenience. Within two hours of arriving two bull elephants wandered into the lodge grounds and made their way straight towards the veranda that overlooks the lake. The lodge is very nicely situated on a medium-sized lake created by a damn. During the dry season, your best chance of seeing wildlife is to stay at the lodge since all the animals come to the lake to drink and bathe in the water. Within 24 hours, I saw at least 12 elephants (many up close), antelope, puku, bushbock, warthogs, many birds, and quite a few hippo. It was a great adventure. All of their safaris are very reasonably priced as is the accommodation and food. I also went on the evening drive to hike black rock and watch the sunset. It was lovely. Finally, the staff were fantastic. They were very welcoming, helpful, and attentive. All in all, I had a great stay and hope to go again someday.

Greate services by Netherland woman (manager). Delicious kitchen, nice sunset from Black Rock - view to all park, direction to Zambia. A few animals (hippo, antelopes)-Liwonde national park a lot of them
