Established under Section 3 of the Legal Aid Act of 2011, the Legal Aid Bureau has the primary statutory mandate to provide legal aid services to indigent and vulnerable Malawians in need of such services. Specifically, the core duties of the Bureau include providing legal advice, legal assistance, or representation in any court, tribunal or similar body or authority to poor vulnerable people in Malawi; and providing civic education and information about the laws to the public in Malawi. Currently, it has offices in Lilongwe, Blantyre and Mzuzu.
