Studio 18 is a community of creative practice and learning, established in 2013.

We aim to:
1. Instil a life-long sense of play and curiosity in young people;
2. Provide quality training in the performing arts;
3. Equip you with reflective skills that allow you to assess your personal qualities and skills, and to set goals;
4. Empower you to explore your options to make informed and committed decisions;
5. Nurture young artists who are active citizens, and who engage in inclusive practices;
6. Develop new theatre repertoire on a national scale.

To date, the Studio has:
​1. Created twelve original theatre projects;
2. Been awarded six funds;
3. Collaborated with a number of entities including ZiguZajg, Spazju Kreattiv, Teatru Malta, Valletta 2018, Agenzija Zghazagh, Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, The Box, Teatru Astra and Teatru Aurora;
4. Provide various members with professional development opportunities locally and overseas

Studio 18 activities range from youth projects to individual mentorship, consultancy and services to schools, collaborations with other creative enterprises and ultimately, the Creative Lab. The organisation was founded by Creative Director Jean-Marc Cafà, who works hand in hand with a Creative Team and a Board of Creative Associates.

The Board consists of:
- Christopher Gatt (former General Manager of St James Cavalier, freelance director)
- Pia Zammit (Director of Studies of the ESU, actor and director)
- Simone Spiteri (actor, writer, director)
- Daniel Azzopardi (Project Manager for ZiguZajg Festival and St James Cavalier)
- Christina Cauchi (Principal of Danza C, Co-Director of RedTape Dance and The Box, choreographer)
- Daniel Cauchi (Musician, Co- Director of the Box, founder of Big Band Brothers)

Creative Lab:
1.Develop the basic skills required for a creative and to integrate skills into different styles and genres and production scenarios and responsibilities;
2. Apply the principles of being a creative to different projects, styles, settings;
3. Develop a critical and reflective approach to artistry and creativity;
4. Become familiar with the different roles of theatre, production practices, texts and their context within theatre history both past and contemporary.

Musical Theatre Programme:
1. Develop the basic skills required for acting, song and dance, and to integrate these skills;
2. Apply the principles of truthful storytelling across disciplines;
3. Explore the foundations, heritage and opportunities of local and international musical theatre contexts;
4. Develop a critical and reflective approach to artistry;
5. Become familiar with basic rehearsal and audition processes.

Acting Programme:
1. Develop the basic skills and techniques required by an actor and understand how to integrate these skills into different contexts;
2. Apply the principles of acting across different texts, styles and genres;
3. Develop a critical and reflective approach to artistry;
4. Become familiar with basic script analysis, character building, pair works and monologue techniques;
5. Become familiar with different theatre texts and their context within theatre history.

Play-Writing Programme:
This programme is conceived to nurture, hone and provide a space for exploration to individuals interested in writing for the stage. Sessions are tailored according to the needs of the group in order to maximise the potential of each individual.
The overall aim is to nurture well-rounded, critical, intelligent writers and provide them with a platform to explore ideas in writing as well as experience the ‘page to stage’ transition in a safe and guided space.

Mentorship Programme:
These sessions cater to the individual's requirements: from audition technique to spoken voice, monologues to the foundations of public speaking, creative practice to writing.
Actors may also prepare to sit for LAMDA or Trinity examinations at advanced level and diploma level, in acting, performance arts, musical theatre and public speaking.

Assessed Pathway:
Members on general programmes may choose to follow the Assessed Pathway, wherein they are:
1. Provided with constant feedback and areas for growth.
2. Empowered to reflect, self-assess and set goals.
3. Guided to develop critical thinking skills.
4. Given the opportunity to explore an area of theatre that interests them.
