Great hostel for hanging out and meeting people. Although we didn't do a tour organised by them we met many people who did and everyone had a great experience. We met some of their tours out on the road and their guides were always friendly and helpful even when we weren't their responsibility!

I would give 0 star if there was any. The worst customer service ever. Who hangs up the phone while talking? Tried calling them thousand times, but right after picking up the phone the guy kept hanging up on me. I guess my mistake was to check in which branch a client I am supposed to pick up is staying. Apparently they have two branches and I asked for the other branch's phone number. What did I get? Nothing but a hang up.

Be careful when choosing this place. When your tour guide needs to pick you up, they might not be telling which branch you are staying in. So you have to know the exact address/ branch and give it to your tour agency/guide by yourself. Otherwise, there might be some conflicts or your guide might be late.response / report this review -

We booked a 7 day Gobi Tour with Sunpath, and stayed in the hostel the night before and two after the tour. The hostel Isherwood nice, familiar and clean. There are a lot of nice people taking care of the rooms and help you with laundry. We were also picked up from the train station for free. The tour itself was amazing, we had nice tourguides who spend their time with us also in the evening and answered a lot of our questions about Mongolia. We had a group of 13 people and were lucky to meet all this nationalities and nice people! The rides with the bus were very long on bumpy roads, but definitely worth the views you get after the rides. We slept in gers of real nomadic family's and felt really welcome. It was very touching to get to know there culture, traditions and everyday life. Doljmaa was very helpful and friendly all the time, organizing taxis after the trip and taking care. Highly recommend if you want to experience the real Mongolia and don't be afraid of the simple life with no shower and bathroom or paved roads;-)

We were 5 persons who booked a 17-day tour in western Mongolia with Sunpath from end of September until mid of October. Our itinerary included the Olgii Eagle festival, the Altai mountains and the Tsaatan people in northern Mongolia.
We planned our trip with Doljmaa, the woman organizing the sunpath tours. The morning we left for the tour she told us that three more guys would join our whole tour, in an other car though. When we asked to see and sign the "agreement"/contract which was promised to us (we were paying more than a 1000$ per person in cash to her) she just gave us a receipt and a paper and a pen, so that we could write an "agreement" on our own (in 2 minutes though since we did not wanted to miss our flight). When we were finally entering our van to the airport in UB Doljmaa suddenly mentioned we were gonna be a group of 16 people around the festival.
In fact that meant we were 16 people for around 8 days, being together 24/7, sleeping all together in one room or ger. On the one hand it made the "mongolian experience" way less authentic than we had imagined it and on the other hand it made the trip very tiring and exhausting (some people going to bed late, some snoring, some getting up very early and especially so many people together passing on germs - at some point just everybody was sick).
Besides the group size also accommodation was an issue. To us it seemed they were saving money by squeezing 16 people in a room sleeping on the floor, two nights even at a cousins of Doljmaa. The guides often argued there was only this one choice of accomodation, but that certainly was not always the case. In a town like Olgii with many guesthouses it would easily have been possible to bring people to a ger or hotel. An other situation: we were driving to Altai mountains for two days aiming to stay in a little ger camp the guides knew for a long time. When we arrived the gers where occupied by other tourists. So we again all 16 of us had to sqeeze in one room of a Kazach family nearby. The family of the ger camp definetely had a phone, so why not make a reservation when you plan on coming with a group of 16 people? One of the main reasons why they did not split the group we later found out was that only one of the four drivers of four cars and two guides knew the directions in the west. Again that was something we felt somehow betrayed, since we originally agreed on paying so much money for an own car, own guide and own driver -assuming he would know the area. If they would have had more drivers knowing the area they could have just made one group go to the Altais while the other group could have gone to the sout. Also we just had one guide for eight people in two cars then.
Besides the guides were badly organized from time to time. There was almost no explaining of anything - neither what we were gonna do that day, were and when we would meet or for example you never knew when you will have the next shower or place to warm up etc - which would have definetely brought up the mood of the group. An other thing which would have made things a lot easier would have been if they had told us before we were sleeping on the floor so often (we were promised gers with beds before). We could have easily brought an inflatable matress, making it way easier to get a good night sleep on the cold floors.
There were also things we found good about the trip. The guides made
really good food, western-mogolian cooking adjusted to the stomachs of westerners. They also had more than enough warm sleeping bags for everyone, so some of us could even use two. During the very cold nights they made sure there was always a fire burning.
After eight days I also got a stomach virus besides a sinusitis and could not continue the trip. When we called Doljmaa she responded friendly and immediately offered to give me and my partner the money back, what I found very fair of her.response / report this review -
