  I attended St Mary's Convent school in 1956. This school was run by an Italian missionary. I studied from 1st standard to 3rd standard in this school. There were buildings for classrooms, a residence for Head mistress, Mother Superior and nuns. I remember there was also a big garden in which all kinds of fruit and vegetable were grown. There was a pond where ducks and geese could be seen swimming. Outside the school compound there is a big elegant church built of brick and stones. I remember once I was in this church observing a funeral rite held for a combat pilot who was fallen while fighting the Kumintang Chinese invaders. The name of the pilot is Peter. He was one of a captains from Burmese Air Forces. His plane was shot down by the enemy in a dogfight, it was learnt at the time. Every year the school holds Mother Feast and we were so much enjoyed the event where there were various toys would shown on the shelves. We had to draw lucky straw in order to get the toys. The toys had different prices and before we drew the straw we had to pay for the admission fee to enter the class where toys were installed. There were also sports event on this joyous day for students. My four sisters and me went to study at this school which we like it very much. Later, this school was nationalized by the military government that seized power from the legitimate civilian government. The school becomes State High School No. 4 under the reign of the military government. All the Italian mother and nuns went back home when the school was nationalized. The school had a good reputation because of its strict discipline and good education provided by the Italian mother and nuns.
