You can see they put a lot of attention on details in this hostel: when arriving when you fill in some information they have questions like 'is there anything we need to know?' 'what would you prefer to be called?', also the signs everywhere with closing the doors gently and breakfast until 10:30 plus the room to sleep/chill when you arrive early in the morning: that's really really nice! Breakfast is amazing as well, beds are super comfortable and spacious and sanitary is good. O, and they have free bikes to use which is great!
For some reason i still didn't réally enjoy my stay. I think I felt a bit "isolated" here, because it's very dark inside, the airco was in my opinion way too cold (while they seem very into sustainability, according to the signs in the bathrooms, which I appreciate, but then puting the airco so low and providing thick blankets, I don't get), the rooms weren't bright and it was just 'dead/death' in the hostel after 22, because everyone went a sleep. Also I asked them before my arrival on Facebook if they would have yoga there when I would be there, they said 'yes', but there wasn't, which I also found strange: why would you say that then?
But the people are really really lovely, flexible and want to help you with everything. So, I think it depends what you're looking for and I can still recommend the place.
Awarded the best hostel in Myanmar. Top 10 rated in the world. They really deserve it. Such a nice place to stay. I’ve rarely seen so friendly and helpful staff. You really feel at home, good beds, free towels, free shampoo, extraordinary daily changing breakfast, free snacks every afternoon, free bicycles, free tours with staff. They organize and book all your trips, busses, taxis, whatever you need. Rooftop bar with a restaurant and bar at cheap prices. The only really bad thing: I would like to stay longer, but I have to leave.
The best hostel i’ve ever been! The staff is extremelly nice, kind and able to help you at any time. The bedsOMG! Is like a small room in a cabin, with enough space to unpack all your backpack if you want! And super comfortable! All hostel is clean, food is amazing and the environment awesome. Is not located in the city center so it makes it quite and better to sleep (city center is quite noisy). And the hostel offers free bycicles for guests! Breakfast is included and everyday they have a different type of breakfast (yummy!)! And they also offer bunch of activities to do! Go to Song of Travels, you won’t regret!
Brilliant place to stay in Nyaungshwe!! The local Hostelstaff is super friendly, can give you great travel information and takes so much care of their guests! I had many interesting chats with them and learned a lot about the burmese life. Highly recommended!!
Good place for traveller especially a bagpacker. Provide transit room if the guest arrived earlier than check in time. Really thoughtful
Best place in town, very helpfull and friendly staff. Beds are the best in myanmar. Many things to do everyday and a beuatifull rooftopbar with good food and drinks. Free coffee and tea full day. Free bicycles are really cool to. It looks a bit further from the centre but only 2 min on bike and its perfect silent at night!
Amazing hostel ! One of the best I've been in my life ! The staff is amazing, they are always smiling, they remember your name and call you by your nickname, the rooms and bathrooms are clean, they have a huuuge agenda of activities : big love.
Best hostel I've ever been so far, not only in Myanmar but WW. Clean, brand new and with all the comforts you need. The staff, all Burmese, makes it special: ALWAYS kind, super helpful and smiley :D
Free bikes, good food and great position complete the package and makes SOT the coolest place to stay while you're visiting Inle Lake. I wish I could stay longer!!!
Really spacious capsules, clean amenities and helpful and friendly staff. Big hangout area in the lobby and on the rooftop, nice for meeting people. Many organized tours to sign up for.
Very friendly staff. Spacious bed. Clean and tidy room. Yummy breakfast
Just great. Super confi beds and speedy wifi. Staff is great too. Fiona has been a star!
Great staff, good dorms and super clean facilities, along with ground floor and rooftop social spaces. Food is available - a small selection, but super cheap - and you can borrow bicicyles for free. Town is a short walk away, though if you are as allergic to moving as the locals expect you to be then you'll describe it as 'far'. Boat jetty is about 2km. Hostel does a good tour of the lake, well priced at 15k with all transport included. And did I mention those super friendly staff?!
One of the best hostels I've ever stayed out. The staff are simply amazing, and there is loads of space to socialise with other travellers, as well as a great rooftop bar. They organise tours and events daily. The breakfast was excellent too, as were the free afternoon snacks at 4pm (those spring rolls - YUM). 10/10!
Awesome purposely built hostel with great common rooms, bathrooms and roof terrace. The dorms arrangements are exactly what's needed for travelers. This place is basically a backpacker's wet dream. It also offers boat tours and free bike rental. Only downside: the bar is not open every day but you can go and buy some cheap rhum at the store and drink it on the nice roof terrace.
Most sociable hostel i've ever stayed in, really great for the solo traveller. Make sure you go on the lake tours and take one of the free bicycles and cycle around the lake, it is magical!
Best hostel in Myanmar. Clean rooms, privacy curtains and free bikes make it perfect - feels like you have a private room.
I'd recommend skipping the tour and explore the countryside with some friends on the free bikes - but I understand some people need the security of a structured tour.
Also note that the bus that this hostel sells to Bago drops you off at a FAKE bus stop where a guy sells onward bus tickets for double the price. Ignore the scammer and walk to the real bus station 10 minutes away.
The hostel's bus tickets are also inflated, but surely you knew that already. Never buy bus tickets from a hostel if you want the cheapest price.
At first $12 a night seems expensive but when you arrive it is immediately apparent that it is excellent value. We arrived at 5am, checked in and were shown to the 'travel day' dorm where we were given beds for the morning. Incredible. They have so much information on what to do in the area. Free activities and traditional snack time every afternoon. And 1500kyat cocktails from 5pm - 8pm. Dorms were amazing with privacy curtains, strong wifi and a/c. Not a bad word to say
Fantastic hostel. Amazing staff. Great beds. So much help and information. Absolutely worth the money. Free bikes! Free cooking classes and snacks. Amazing cocktails on the roof. Nothing bad to say. The best. THEY LITERALLY GIVE YOU A FREE ROOM AND BED WHEN YOU ARRIVE AFTER THE NIGHT BUS AT 4AM.
Really lovely hostel. The front desk staff are super nice and willing to help you with questions. If you arrive on the overnight bus at 4am, they have a room with some mattresses on the floor where you can get some sleep. I really enjoyed the full day boat tour on the lake, definitely sign up!
Only major con is the price. I think the events and cleanliness make it worth it, but it's a bit pricey.
My only other suggestion would be to explain some cultural norms to visitors when they check in as they may be new to Myanmar. I saw so many girls wearing short shorts leaving to bike around town. A cheerful reminder to cover up in town/at monesteries would go a long way to making sure it doesn't turn into the next Thailand. :)
Amazing experience at Song of Travel. I arrived in Nyaungshwe before sunrise, and although I was early to check-in, there was a room with a number of mattresses for individuals who check in early. There is also luggage storage on the main floor. Each room has a number of beds, but each is very comfortable, and offers its own power outlet, light, as well as a curtain for privacy. There is also a locker for each bed. The hostel offers many tours and social activities for patrons. Staff were also amazing and very helpful. Free bikes to rent, as well as mountain bikes at an additional cost.
