Great place to visit in Myanmar. Always prioritize those who pray there, don’t make noise when they pray. Building is huge, pretty clean. Great to visit at night and sunset time.

THE Landmark of Myanmar, probably the most important place-of-interest in an otherwise boring Yangon. Beautiful pagoda and compound, with 4 entrances for you to choose from, although foreigners are usually ushered to take the elevator near the East gate parking lot. Foreigners need to pay about US$8 or MMK 10,000. For a first-timer, it would be great if you can hire a freelance tour guide (usually they will loiter around the elevator lobby) who can tell you many interesting stories about the Pagoda. Tips are usually US$10-15 for a 1-hour tour.

Definitely a must-see in Yangon. Went in the afternoon and stayed until sunset - which is what you should do if you have the time. Walk around the site, sit down and just people watch. You could also consider getting the services of a local guide to walk with you, explaining key features of the site.

A must visit to all visitors to Yangon, and even Myanmar. The history is rich, a perfect monument that illustrates the growth of Buddhism, the founding of Myanmar and the rise of nationalism. The architecture is both ancient and solemn, and a magnificent reflection of the country's proud tradition and history.

A local advised us to visit Shwedagon before dawn. We reached there at 5 am and the pagoda was beautifully lighted. It was good to soak in the serene atmosphere with many local worshippers reciting their prayers, rather than having to crowd with other tourists if we had gone later in the day. Avoid visiting during the hot part of the day as visitors have to be barefooted within the whole temple complex, and the tiled floor gets very hot.

Magnificent ! This is the biggest pagoda in Myanmar . I feel peaceful and very happy in the same time. This place showing how much that Myanmar people faithful in Buddhism .You should come here about 5pm and stay until the sunset so you can see the beautiful of this place in different moments . Dress properly , you must left your shoes at the ticket booth, the admission fee is 8000 kyat. This place is very clean,no problem to walk barefoot .

awesome site. a must see. it was the highlight of our Yangon trip. we went at 5 am and got to see the pagoda in 3 diff lights. watching sunrise there is an unforgettable experience. i recommend the northern stairway/entrance for the best view of the pagoda. if you come early morning, bring a light sweater as it gets pretty chilly.

No words to describe this divine experience. Second visit after 25 years but feeling same. Prayed for welfare of near and dears. Poured holy water many times and spent some quite moments in meditation and in awe of golden beauty. Can visit any number of times for prayers if there is a chance.

THE place to go in Yangon. Best time to be there is an hour before sunset. Stroll around for a while when the sky started to get dark. That's the perfect time to take a few shots of the golden pagoda with a deep blue sky

Beautiful pagoda! A must see in Yangon. There is an entrance on every geographical side. Make sure you wear slippers or sandals beacuse you will need to take them off. Entrance is forbidden with any kinds of shoes, short pants and clothing that may expose too much of your body. You can rent a "man dress" at entrance if wearing short pants. Take some time to admire the golden structure and observe the many people gathered there for prayers. Absolutely stunning!

If there is one thing to see in Myanmar, this is it. The gigantic pagoda is covered completely in gold! There are also plenty of other smaller pagodas in the complex to check out. It is so so beautiful and spiritual!

Strongly recommended! Amazing place. A must visit. Very peaceful despite how busy it can be. Go in the A.M. for smaller crowds. Go in the afternoon (daylight), and stay until after sunset for the best views. Great place to mingle with locals & meet new people. Overall, a humbling place and experience steeped in culture & history.

The most amazing pagoda you might ever visit. Everyone is friendly too.
I have been here twice. Unfortunately the ladies at the front desk scammed me both times - first time not giving me my deposit back and the second time charging me too much. It’s done very subtly but on purpose. Be careful.response / report this review -

A must see place. Gigantic and wonderful pagoda. Better to visit early morning 5 o’clock or end of the day. It’s cooler and calm especially in the morning. Get to know about do’s and don’t first. And as a foreigner visitor you will « logically » get charged to visit.

A must see in Yangon, Myanmar. Please read about dos and don't before you go. Recommend to go at night. Make sure you read the history about it a bit. In any case, you won't disappoint nor get bored. Explore and learn the local people as this is Theravada Buddhism followers.

Too big , too close, no shot.
Hot as balls and they ant you to wear a sweater and a wool skirt. No thank you. There's another pagoda 200 meters away that is just as nice and free and no need for extra clothes.response / report this review -

Stunning pagoda, a must see while in Yangon. Spectacular both during the day and after the sunset. It's possible to rent appropriate clothing so don't worry if you forget to bring one with you.

Quite a spectacular complex of 328-ft tall golden pagoda surrounded by smaller pagodas, shrines with Buddha images, pilgrims at prayers etc. Best time to vist: in the early morning and late afternoon after 4 pm. The outdoor platforms with tiles are hot during the day. They can be very slippery too when wet as you will be in bare foot there. Be super careful! Words and pictures cannot express the great spiritual ambience and the grandeur of this unique living religious site.

There are 2 lift towers operating; one on the Eastern Entrance and the other one on the Northern Entrance.
Parkings are available on all 4 corners.
Public transport (buses) is accessible via North/East/South corners while Western corner being the exception.

Definitely a must-see if you are in Yangon. It is so magnificent when it is lit up at night that you can even see the whole pagoda glistening from afar. When you are inside this Golden Pagoda, it is very serene although there are lots of people.

Welcome to the biggest golden Pagoda in the world! it's a very special and unique relaxing temple, build over 2600 years ago', a lot of history has been through this incredible place! prepare for a long walk to the top, sunset and evening are in my opinion the best times (under the afternoon sun I can get super hot) enjoy and chill!

A beautiful pagoda, glittering with literally tons of gold. We visited in February and the weather was pleasant. Hot, but not too. We hired a tour guide at the ticket counter. He was very knowledgeable about the pagoda, and we felt that the $10 USD price was well worth it.
Consider staying at the Hotel Lavender nearby for great views of the Shwedagon from your bedroom window.response / report this review -

The Shwedagon Pagoda (full bodied gold) is the biggest pagoda in the whole world and was built last 2500 years ago. The atmosphere of Pagoda can make anyone peaceful and calm who takes a visit or comes to pay a homage. Every five year the gold plates of the whole pagoda are refurbished. Best timing to visit here is in the morning before 10 am and in the afternoon before sunset around 4 pm when the temperature will not disturb the peaceful of mind, and good for taking pictures as well. The Pagoda can be seen from most of the parts of Yangon. This is the MUST visit place when you are in Yangon.
