A must on the Burmese travel map. However if you are not into hard call selling and are not interested to buy any of the handcrafted staff made in the villages around the lake, inform your tour (boat) guide. Enjoy the ride in a diesel engine boat (bit noisy), the beauty of the canals and be amazed by the houses built on water. Don't miss the sunset.

The scenery is not the most beautiful. It’s a fishing village that became over crowded and very touristic. I wouldn’t recommend unless it’s on your way. They charge to get to Inle which I think it’s too much for what you get to see. We did a small 30 min boat trip surround the village over the water. It’s nice to see how do they live but in average it doesn’t deserve the move

10 hours by bus/car apart from Yangon, or 6 hours from Naypyitaw.
Nice place to visit.
Must see: one-leg-fisherman, silver workshop, cheroot workshop, some pagoda.
One or two days is enough.
Be careful, your camera may get wet during travelling by boat.

If you like wild nature, hiking and trekking this lake is that you are looking for. It's possible to have a three days tour, hiking and sleeping in small rural houses. It was an amazing experience, at the end of the tour you can enjoy the lake on a boat.

Although visited by many tourists, the morning views are stunning, at daytime enough spots to have for yourself, to enjoy the relative silence at the floating gardens. One of the few spots to watch birds in Myanmar.

The natural lake of Myanmar and located in Shan State. Many local visitors and foreigners go there for viewing the beauty of the lake and traditions.
It is a nice place to visit.

This is a very beautiful and relatively unspoiled area with many, many different activities and places to stay. Sadly, water hyacinth is a bad problem and, combined with deforestation of the surrounding hills, puts the lake ecosystems under severe pressure. Visit as soon as you can. The people are wonderfully welcoming and hospitable.

Beautiful place to view n photograph sunrise or sunset. Be aware of fishermen. They are not really fishing, at all. They perform and of course they want dollars. The local market is great. Other spots I was too tired to see

Wonderful and really large lake with floating gardens, wooden cottages and so on, but also one of the places for which I didn't like Myanmar. I hated especially one thing about this place: the local "fishermen". As you can see in all those guidebooks, there are photos of fishermen catching the fish in their unique way, "dancing". It is only a theatre for tourists!! Once your boat approaches the main part of the Inle Lake, two "fishermen" - actors - appear on their boats and start "dancing" for you so you can take photos, but then, they come closer to your boat, show you one small dead fish and demand money for that! What a filthy tourist scam! I almost didn't believe my ears when I heard the fisherman asking for money. Second thing I hated were other annoying locals. They see a tourist who is about to walk on the bridge, so they jump to their boats and follow you to the end of the bridge, then immediately jump to you and three or four times ask you to go back by boat (why, my God??) for money, of course. You just can't get rid of them anywhere!

Very beautiful and pleasant place with wonderful nature. Everyone will sure enjoy when they arrive there. Almost all of tourists are visit this lake when they have trip to visit Myanmar.

Beautiful, idyllic, fascinating. Inle Lake is well worth a visit to take in the unique food and lifestyle of these lake based communities. They houses on stilts and various industries are another world. Visiting now is a great time as the tourism industry is established enough to make it approachable but the place is not yet overrun.

Had a perfect few days visiting Inle Lake. Enjoyed the spectacular natural beauty as well as the little workshops you get taken to if you go on a boat tour. I was lucky enough to visit during mid autumn festival too, so there was a fun festival boat parade at the lake in the morning!

Inle lake that is 116 squarekilometers wide is located in the Shan state of Myanmar. (Shan states before colonial times belonged to Sayam). Inle Lake is best known for the Intha tribe fishermen, that row their boat with one leg and for its floating gardens. I never before and after have seen such beautiful colours in the nature - probably due to zero air pollution. The lake is usually calm and i can definately recommend to discover the lake by a boattour. Don't miss to visit the silversmiths, cigarmakers (cheerot) and umbrella manufacturers on the lake.

Stunning natural beauty meets mass tourism so I hope it doesn't get spoiled. There is garbage everywhere in the local town of Nyaungshwe where we stayed in January. The lake itself and the floating villages are best viewed by longtail boats which are cheap to hire. The people living on the lake live a primitive lifestyle in beautiful surroundings. It's high on the list of must-see places in Burma but we were happy to stay just for a couple of days before flying on to Nyaung-U and Bagan.
