  It's a real tourist trap. We were scammed by a monk here. He showed us around for 15 minutes and than forced us to make a donation form 15000 kyat (that's a lot of money for Myanmar). He but the money into a book in his own room, so I'm sure that the money doesn't end up at the monastery but in his own pockets.
