Lovely garden with interesting plantings including bamboo and different trees by family. The (dead) butterfly museum and petrified wood museum were small but added interest. Worth the trek out of Mandalay.

The National Kandawgyi Gardens formerly known as National Botanical Gardens is located in the Alpine town about 1.5 km south of Pyin Oo Lwin, Myanmar. It's quiet place with big acre of land. It is a popular picnic spot for the locals and one of the main attractions for tourist. The Butterfly museum is the amazing place to see in the garden.

It's a good place for relaxing. Many rare species of flower, plant, tree are maintained in this garden. It is a soul heart of Pyin Oo Lwin.
I can say that you have to take at least two hours to cover around the garden. You can buy the species of flower. A beautiful coffee shop is in there.
I strongly recommended to visit National Kandawgyi Garden. Here I add some photos for your review.😉

A colonial creation beautifully kept and maintained by Myanmar people. Well worth a visit for a leisurely half day. Of note are a high tower to climb with fantastic views, a very extensive museum of butterflies and insects and a large lake teaming with fish and both black and white swans.

Only grass and trees
Flowers are exhibited only in December
No special attractive issue inside
Not reach the basic standards of a garden
Better go to caves and waterfalls instead

The place is awesome. Trees, shrubs, bamboo, swamp are there. Some areas are covered by pine trees in which the ground is carpeted by dried pine leaves. The small hut makes the places more attractive.

The swampy areas, can be explored by walking on the wooden footpath. From there we can see different kinds of water vegetation.

As the place is covered by thick forest with different types of bamboo and other trees, and of course water; the temperature is moderately cool. Ah! How I love the place :-) :-)

This is most likely the whole reason for coming to the city, and it delivers. Beautiful and spacious gardens, with different activities and things for the whole family to enjoy. One could easily spend several hours here just relaxing and enjoying the day.

Overpriced and overrated. Away from the main area of the garden you can find rubbish, dead plants and areas that look like no one has taken care of the plants for a long time.
As a foreigner I had to pay 6500 kyat. Way too expensive. In Australia and Germany you can find beautiful botanic gardens that are free (FOR EVERYONE) and they are much better maintained.

The wonderful Kandawgyi (Royal) Botanical Gardens is a famous attraction in Pyin Oo Lwin bringing tourists from around the country and abroad alike. The massive gardens are definitely worth the trip, just make sure to bring an umbrella to shield you from the oppressive sun!

An oasis of relax to escape from the sometimes too noisy street life in Myanmar. There is nothing must-to-see, but a you can have a couple of hours of nice walking between english style green pointed by pagodas and a lovely lake with black swans. There is also a restaurant inside which serves good food for a reasonable price, and a nice view.
