Great Mosque of Djenne

  Six hours of non-stop driving from Bamako, two hours of waiting for ferry to cross Bani River but this mosque is totally worth all that.
  
  This architecture and community around it that supports the mosque shows us the genius of African and Islamic civilization that the world has a lot to learn from.
  
  Unfortunately the few hotels that were in Djenne have shutdown so not much on offer in terms of facility in the town so I had to make a day trip out of that.
  
  There is a nice wudu station on the side of the masjid. Make wudu there and pray inside the masjid. Someone will summon an English-speaking guide and you can more information and a tour.

  Really cool! I recommend finding a guide to see this mosque because the details and history of it are quite fascinating. It's an extremely impressive and picturesque structure.
