Beautiful mosque in the city center of Tetovo. This is definitely something to visit while going to ohrid. The mosque is very peaceful and well decorated. You can enter and visit it at almost any time. You will feel transported while in the gardens surrounding the mosque. The paints on the walls are very stunning

Beautiful beyond words. It's in a corner of a park. The mosque is very well kept. There's a modern toilet just outside the mosque's wall. Unfortunately it's not so clean and stinks. If you just want to do wudu' (ablution), use the fountain inside the wall. The fountain itself is a rare beauty. I was gald, we made a stop in Tetovo to see this mosque.

I've never encountered a mosque with an interior like this. It looks as if it belongs somewhere in Florence. A fascinating example of the later Ottoman efforts to mimick European art and design. If you come upon this place, you have to try and gain entry to the interior, even if it means putting up with the grumpy old man who has the key.

Xhamia e Pashës or the Painted or Decorated Mosque of Tetovo was built in 1495, its base being widened in 1833 by the Ottoman leader Abdurrahman Pasha, a patron of the arts. In the first half of 19th century, all of the ruling Pashas were very active in building Tetovo, refortifying the town as well as erecting many of its monuments.
