Great museum
Museum of Shtip (Macedonian: Музеј на Градот Штип) was founded in 1950 as a city institution, which turn into Museum of Stip in 1955.
The museum houses more than a thousand artifacts discovered during archaeological excavations in the region. These objects are divided into two sections, one devoted to prehistory, the other in antiquity and the Middle Ages.
The collection illustrates especially prehistoric culture of Anzabegovo-Vrchnik settlement, which developed in Neolithic Age, with a large number of pottery and stone tools. The Iron Age is represented by jewelry, amulets, pottery and funerary chariot dating from the reign of Alexander the Great.
The collection includes antique ceramics and statues of pagan divinities of Greek and Roman, as Zeus and Aphrodite. The Byzantine era is especially illustrated by the results of excavations Bargala, including the remains of carved wood panels illustant prayers of the Old Testament.
The Middle Ages is presented with jewelry and crucifixes found in the region, artifacts produced by the Avars witnessing their presence, and dishes and tools found in the Isar Fortress, which dominates the city of Shtip.
The museum also has an ethnological collection, including traditional costumes and objects.
Monument of Deported Jews is a monument erected in honor of deported Jews from Stip during World War II. It is the work of artist Methods Andonov and is erected in 1985, which symbolizes the life of the Jews. According to the author "Line of Life" was broken on March 11, 1943 when 551 people were deported from Stip and killed in Treblinka concentration camp. The monument is located next to the building of the Institute and Museum - Stip.
