Description

In a time of universal deceit – telling the truth is a revolutionary act. This saying of the English writer George Orwell is a sufficient incentive to initiate projects where the truth will not depend on language barriers or the centers of political and economic power.

At a time of numerous aftershocks of the media market in Macedonia, when facing a decline in media freedom, we, as Center for Investigative Journalism SCOOP Macedonia, present INBOX-online magazine that will be dedicated primarily by and for citizens.

Our goal is INBOX to be your internet mailbox, where you could present your troubles, problems, attitudes and opinions. Our intention is to be an open window to everyone, through contents that would be a result of objective and unbiased journalism. Our mission is to promote professional journalistic values and standards, which unfortunately, have slowly begun to fade.

The idea of INBOX was born spontaneously, unobtrusively and with a desire to enrich the media cyberspace with a unique online magazine that will be distinguished by its originality in topics it will offer, analytical approach and will allow readers a different angle of view. Criticism, but no accusations, polemics, but no disputes, research, rather than unilateral presentation of things. That is briefly the identity card of INBOX, which we hope to enrich with your help to make it more interesting, more challenging for the readers.

INBOX will be open to all, regardless of nationality, religion, race, gender or age. INBOX will allow equal space to public figures from the social and political life. Their views, opinions, different opinions will be presented on these pages, without any such qualification, and with the sole intent – to try to present things in the best possible professional level. To develop investigative journalism, to promote professional standards in journalism, and thereby to preserve objectivity. This is what will lead us in the preparation of journalistic analyzes, reports, interviews, research stories and debates. We will not only have space for presentation of current social issues, but we will enable you to actively get involved in public debates that we will organize for you – for the simple reason – because we appreciate your opinion.

We hope that readers will recognize our efforts to contribute to the ambience of creating a better climate in society and promote democratic values.

Experts say the country should not allow an absence of a functional body that will fight corruption, for a long period. Although there seems to be a way to resolve the situation, it appears that for some months now the necessity of this body in the state has been neglected.

The party state again hangs over the rule of law. With the arrest of former security chief Mijalkov, the rush of dissatisfaction after the news of the Hungarian asylum his first cousin obtained was, more or less, released

The latest developments related to the escape of already former officials must be sanctioned. Certain personalities must resign. I am not the only one saying this, it is in the consciousness of every honest citizen who wants to live in a state governed by the rule of law.

The institution for competition remains a facade, not a mechanism that can select the most skilled for a given work. An Albanian poet wrote “in our country, they find job according to the man, not a man according to the job”. This is the logic of the “mother” party in power, which always cares to enrich its obedient members, those who in most cases do not have any quality other than sticking party posters during the elections.

In a democratic and free country, such and similar things will happen to us. We should not lose our nerves, accusing each other (the government, the court, the court, the prosecutor’s office ) because only the democratic system and freedom can suffer from it. For, in such cases, when we talk about human rights, we do not think of our own, but the rights of political opponents. Only in that way, namely, can we defend our own freedom.

At the end of the third decade of their party battles for domination, the two powerful political forces, SDSM and VMRO-DPMNE continue to act as Amazonian tribes. With their permanent mutual conflicts, they continue to harass the poor foreigners, who are amazed at our self-degrading capacities, and at how much we need their energy to constantly pull us out of our own primitivism.

The philosopher and essayist György Konrad (George Konrad) says that ideologies need hatred, a passionate hatred. It is these ideological irrationalities that Konrad deals with in his book “Antipolitics”. And we already see that the “flag” of the public noise is held by people who at the time of Gruevski's rule were silent and never said a contradictory word against the regime. On the contrary, many of them profited at that time, and today, with lots of “finesse”, they take on the role of dissidents.

While the introductory statements of the OSCE report are traditionally positive and diplomatically expressed (for example, that the elections were competitive… and this sounds familiar to us too, from our December 2016 elections), the “good news” end here more or less, and most of the time in the key findings the shortcomings of the process are criticized. For starters, there are several major observations regarding the electoral roll (voter registration) and the exercise of the right to vote. The report said at least over 11 million voters could not vote (for example, the Columbia District in Washington, or over 6 million convicts), and there is an estimate that over 50 million eligible voters were not registered at all for these elections. It is about ¼ of the total voting body, and the figure in Macedonia of about 40,000 “phantom voters”, out of whom over 10,000 themselves registered to vote (and turned out not to be phantom) reduced the problem with the roll of about 1,5% of the voting body. The OSCE calls for “addressing these long-term challenges of providing an appropriate electoral infrastructure”. And this sounds familiar to us, right?

That is the magic triangle of digitalization-what is technologically possible; what is legally allowed and if there is a political will. For example, it’s technically no problem to sign a paper electronically, to have electronic stamp, whatever you need. Is it legally allowed?

Experts and part of the public agree that they should not blindly transmit Facebook or Twitter status of well-known people whose word has a different weight and can cause consequences greater than expected, given that they have thousands of followers.

The finally violated Balkan rule that those who change in power are forgiving sins, courageously done by the leadership of SDSM and DUI, finally paved the way for the rule of law. I cannot use the word irreversibly, because all sorts of surprises are possible in politics, a domain managed by an unpredictable human nature. However, it can be freely stated that the road has been paved. If we work committed to the affirmation of the principles of the rule of law, we will understand that they are a salvation for everyone, even for those who are now in power, and after some future elections, will no longer be. So, let's reconcile for the rule of law!

Every country has a budget that is not unlimited, this year for a change the Ministry of Health managed to provide 28,000 free vaccines for the whole Macedonia. 5000 free and 4000 commercial vaccines have been allocated for Skopje. There had to be a selection who would get them. However, there are not enough funds to be procured, so the decision was for those to be the pensioners over 65 and people with a lower pension of 14,000 denars.

We are witnessing an influx of publications, comments and replies on social networks that are often filled with hate speech based on ethnicity, political orientation, but there are also insults on other grounds. Additionally, current political and everyday developments only destroy emotions between people.

Neither then nor now I am feeling as a traitor. Because if we go by that analogy, now my colleagues are traitors as they enter this process. It is regrettable that such qualifications are given, whether we are talking about a traitor or a hero, we should once and for all take those personal and political interests off forever, and engage sincerely and honestly in this process. We must also determine the mistakes of the government in the whole process – we as an opposition. Because the interest of all of us is a faster entry into the EU and NATO and it is not only declarative, but we should make a direct effort to do it in any way

There are many debates on the mass social networks about where the boundary of decency of the public word is. Should the state intervene or vulgarities are within the framework of the broad liberal democratic principles? One of the many theoretical interpretations: “Hate speech is the verbalization of negative emotions, human natural need and the result of instinctual, but also imagined reflexions caused by subjects who from positions of social supremacy provoke destructions with their behaviour.”
