  The best place I stayed in in Madagascar. I think that I am a sometimes picky guest and this is the first time that I feel that I can recommend a hotel without "but". I spent a week in Boraha Village and I did not want to leave. The complex is perfectly located on the eastern coast of Sainte Marie, only 4,5 kilometers from Ambodifotatra, the islands capital. The landscape in front of the hotel is so beautiful that we spent several hours just admiring the blue waters of the lagoon and observing the locals who fish in it or navigate with their canoes. People in Madagascar are friendly in general, but the staff in Boraha Village is particularly kind. The owners (Jossiane and Pascal) and workers make a great team and made us feel comfortable, offering help or information whenever we needed it without creating the servile, affectedly friendly atmosphere that sometimes exist in small hotels. In a country where power relations between Europeans and locals frequently resemble the colonial past, it was inspiring to notice that Jossiane and Pascal treat the local workers with respect and kindness, and that the employees enjoy that horizontal relationship and their job at the hotel. At the same time that aspect reflects the social engagement of Jossiane and Pascal, who also take part in a project intended to protect whales and support socially and environmentally sustainable projects among the inhabitants of Sainte Marie.
  The bungalows are comfortable, well furnished and beautiful. The food and cocktails in the restaurant are varied, delicious and affordable. The services offered at the hotel are also affordable and interesting (whale watching, snorkeling, fishing, scooter rental), and the location in the middle of the island makes it a perfect spot to explore it.
