Clean sea, pretty view, 1st day of nice staff.
This is where positives end.
I have brought a team of 19 people to this hotel & purchased 3-course meal for 7 nights stay.
Staff was friendly at first, but it quickly became clear that two waiters we had is not a large enough staff to meet needs of our team building/educational trip.
Several times during our stay me and number of our team members were disappointed with the selection to stay at the Hotel Vila Kostanjica.
Most of it revolved around owner's unwillingness to do anything.
What it came down to: they had little consideration for our business needs, which translated into the following:
- We were disallowed to bring our own water to a working room (empty restaurant room was given to us for that). Instead the owner wanted us to pay 2 Euro per bottle for water to be served At the end we settled on drinking a tap water, which was never offered.
- We were never warned that we need to vacate the room at 23:00 sharp. We had some evening activities, which spilled into later hours. One night at the very peculiar emotional moment (we used candle light only) the owner turned ON the lights and told us to leave immediately as they need to go home. Again: the rule that we can't use the space at night was never communicated
People were extremely upset as moment was lost.
Next morning I have received a lecture that we behaved impolitely as we left that room without saying "Good night"
I of course apologized to make peace, but realized something this very moment. Montenegro, so desperately wanting to be Europe is extremely lacking the level of service of Western Europe or the US . It would take decades to catch up.
- Food was extremely mediocre and portions were small for the price paid.
People had to eat bread not to starve with the fixed menu.
We ended up spending more to allow people order from other menus or visited other restaurants in the area to leave a better impression about the country and local cuisine, than we could have gathered from the menu we had.
- Ordering food was a challenge: we needed to do it hours in advance and took overall 90 minutes out of every day to work on the lists for everyone.
- Our request to darken the room with our own effort (towels) were faced with resistance, because according to the owner the restaurant would appear ugly from outside We just needed it dark for 2 hrs to run the presentation in door.
My attempts to educate the seemingly smart young daughter of the owner Emilija were not fruitful. She just kept repeating whatever her father decided, without any regard to needs of our team.
Initially we were promised 10% discounts on rooms & food. When paid we only received a discount on rooms and not on food.
Overall: if you want to stop by the place for a clean sea, 1 night or so: it may be perfectly fine.
Don't even think about bringing the team for any team building event to Hotel Vila Kostanjica.
The owner has no chance to learn how to do business the human way. Can't help this stubborn individual.

We spent here at the Vila Kostanjica 5 days at the private beach and restaurant while we were actually living in Hercog Novi. If you are looking for a place to relax and have some very delicious food, Vila Kostanjica is an excellent choice.
