Monastery that has a very significant meaning for Montenegro people. It was originally built at the end of 17th century but during the history many times suffered damage from the Otomans. Founder of the monastery is Prince bishop Danilo, also the founder of a great dynasty Petrovic Njegos.
Originally on this place was residence of Ivan Crnojevic, Lord of Montenegro and founder of Cetinje. Monastery represents a symbol of Cetinje and Old Montenegro.

Old orthodox monastery
This monastery has a special place in my heart and in my life. It was long time ago in 2001, when I was going through the hardest period of my life. I was alone with my two daughters,my first husband died and I was desperate. I asked my priest to be in this monastery for several days,to live there and help in monastery everyday's life so he allow me to be there with my kids. I had a wonderful time . Peace that I found was calming for my soul full of sorrow. I clean their library and had some easy jobs to do,I attended the services and prayers, I ate together with them and this monastery is special for me.

Very old orthodox Church
Very nice place closed to old town. Nice church real monastir old icons
The old capital of Montenegro, is a small quiet town in the mountains. The catedral is important for the ortodoxe. You can hind there the right hand of the Saint John the Baptist and a museum. There are many treasure here and clear links to the Russian Orthodox Church. We were lucky enough to view the start of baptism with full regalia for the clergy. It's important to have a knowledgeable guide as the level of interpretation provided within the monastery is non-existent (why should it be anything else as the monks do not really want visitors).
