The biggest mountain peek on Durmitor

A great place with great views! Bobotov Kuk is considered the highest peak in Montenegro, but physically it is not. The highest is Maja Kollata (higher by 11 meters), but it is partially located in Albania, so they decided to call the highest - Bobotov Kuk, which is completely in the territory of Montenegro.

Absolutely worth the climb. Started from Sedlo and made our way up to the top. Lucky to get some good weather in October. Would not recommend of covered with thick snow. Views at the top and en route are unrivalled. Certain sections come with via ferrata or fixed ropes that you can use for support. Involves a lot of scrambling, and some very tight paths

We hiked to Bobotov Kuk from the so called saddle. The most beautiful trail on Durmitor leading to the summit. Not so long in km but it takes about 3h to climb. The last 200m tend to be crowded. Watch for escarpments. On the way down if you're up for it you could change trail, take the one leading directly to Black Lake if you're not tired. It's more challenging. One of the most beautiful hikes for sure.

Be careful. The hike is easy technically, but a little demanding physically. Stay careful when approaching the top, and when descending the first 100m - the weariness and the slippery rocks can be a deadly mix. Quite literally, if you're not careful.
We did the whole hike in sneakers - that is because we were lucky to have great, sunny weather with no single cloud on the sky. I still claim it was a stupid decision - the rocks are at some parts slippery even in a hot sunny day. Don't challenge your luck. Go with solid mountain shoes. If there's a slightest shower, mountain shoes with a good grip are a must.
We did the hike in 5,5 hours with 2x10min breaks (mind you, that's not much), maybe 10min on the top, and mediocre tempo. If you're an experienced hiker, you'll be able to do it under 5h easily.
Finally - there are moments where you're facing a precipice. If you know that might paralise you, do think twice. Some numbers from a 'once-a-year hiker': Technically the hike is 1/5. Physically it's 2/5 (going from Sedlo pass). Exposition-wise - 4/5. Views - 5/5. Truly, truly breathtaking.response / report this review -

Bobotov kuk is 2525m high and the highest peak in Montenegro. The best hike is during summer months July and August, but September hike can be great if the weather is OK. There are 3 hiking trails leading to this peak and each of them is guaranteed adventure. First and the longest one is starting from Crno jezero (Black Lake) and it takes five and half hours hiking. Second one is from southern part of Durmitor mountain starting from passage Sadlo and takes 3 to 3 and half hike to the summit. The third and by my opinion the best one is starting from Dobri do - Sarban camp site. You can spent a night before the hike and take advantage of early morning hike to reach the summit in just two and half hours. The view from the peak is magnificent and in clear day you can see the most of the Montenegrin mountains, even those close to the sea. Also, you can see a large portion of mountain peaks in Serbia and Bosnia. The most beutiful sight is Durmitor mountain itself and astonishing canyon of Tara river. This hike offers different routes for return to Zabljak and many fresh water springs and one small lake called Zeleni vir (Green source). If you are spending some time in Durmitor area this is a must visit place. It is physically demanding but it's all worth of effort.
