I also encountered the “only new shoes” in gym only, however they have free sandals to give you and you put your shoes in locker and wear the sandals. It seems to be a Moldovan thing to keep dirt from street out. Overall it wasn’t a problem and it is a fantastic gym with any and all equipment and weights you would want. Day passes are available. It costed 100 leis when I came.

Avoid this crippy place. It looks very bad and they ask you for a second sport shoes that are not the ones from the street!
