Our 3-day 4x4 experience from Marrakech to Fes via Merzouga has been the highlight of our 2-week trip to Morocco. Our guide Jamal/ driver Abdou ,were Berber and originally a nomad by occupation. they ware super helpful, friendly and knowledgeable about Morocco, its culture, landscape and even introduced us to some really fun Berber music.
The sights and landscape we experienced was more than just a tour, far above our expectations and completely worth it. As you drive over the Atlas Mountains into the desert, the landscape changes from the cityscape to rocky hills, snow-clad mountains, gorges, cliffs, sandy desert and even a quaint Swiss-style town somewhere in the middle! The camel ride and camping under the starry sky in the dunes was absolutely magical. One tip we can give, ask your guide to stop to buy wine on the way to the desert so it's even more magical ;)
The whole team of Morocco Tour Guide (our guides in the desert camp & fellow tambourine players by the bonfire) was very organised, helpful and welcoming. Would completely recommend this to everyone visiting, you'd never be able to experience it like this unless you have a month & know the locals.
Ask for Idir if you want to be regaled with jokes, Berber stories, music & history, he became more of a friend than just a guide by the end of the trip
the tour was definitely one of the highlights of our time in Morocco. We had two people with us,driver, and our guide Jamal. Both were extremely attentive and answered all our questions. They made sure we were enjoying ourselves at all times. The tour itself is very comprehensive. To me, it was the best way to get from one city to another, as it gives you the opportunity to see different berber villages, visit old kasbahs, cross the Atlas Mountains, and most importantly visit Erg Chebbi! A definite must
