Architecturally speaking this airport is stunning modern and well laid out for the most part. However it's not great to use. Landing and getting through the airport takes ages and is quite chaotic. Then you have to go through metal detectors and pass your bags through a scanner just to get out of the airport. Then you get outside and the taxi drivers are all trying to charge you four times what you should be paying.
Then flying out you have to scan your bags again just to get into the airport and then again going through security and everything takes twice as long as it should take. beautiful but chaoticresponse / report this review -

They made the airport bigger just to pretend it's better but is worse than before. You wait a lot for the border police, the women who clean the bathroom ask for money and everyone is rude and not helpful at all I wish they put more policeman and they made things easier and faster. Also, the taxis outside always try to charge much more and they scream to you and treat you very bad. The price is 100 dirham for the ride and they have it in the front of the car, but still they always ask for more and more

Very nice airport, so close to the city centre. If it's your first time, like it was mine, you will need to fill in landing cards upon both leaving and arrival (embarkation/dembarkation). Have the info at hand, especially the address where you are staying. Upon return even if you've only got hand luggage, you still need to go to the check in desk to have your boarding pass stamped before proceeding to security.

You will need a pen to fill the entry and the exit form. If you don’t have one, a cleaning lady will lend you one… but in the end, she will want you to pay for the usage! The same with the WC, you will find some cleaning lady there and, in the end, she will request you money for the WC usage.
There are also X-Ray controls in the entry and the exit of the public airport zone. The one from the entry is normally packet and it is really slow. It is better to be there at least 2:30 hour before your flight.
There are a fee shops, but they are all very expensive.response / report this review -

Humongous airport. Gorgeous! Looks brand new and they should be very proud. However, the whole process coming into the airport was crazy.

All of this happened, and a complaint of mine would have been that the line to check out bags into the flight and get our tickets was insanely long, even with 3 hours of spare time. But I had status with the airline, so I was able to jump ahead. If not, arriving 3 hours ahead was a complete necessity.
Again gorgeous airport, fix a few things and this airport could be the greatest in the world.response / report this review -

Lovely airport but the check in, security, customs, extra passport checks are horrendous - the WORST i have seen. Starts with a security check to get in the building (queue for 20 mins outside) then check in usual 15 minute queue and then the fun starts. First queue for entry to baggage security 10 mins, queus for baggage security 20 mins. Almost there now just passport control 30 mins and of corse then a last passport and card check and run through the departure lounge for the flight.
So learning points
- allow at least 3 hours to get through or more
- fill in a disembarkation card (these are the same as on arrival)
- bring a pen.

The new terminal building, whilst "prettier" than the old one, has made absolutely zero difference to the experience at this airport. If anything, it's worse than it was before.
No pens provided to fill in your immigration cards means a mad rush to borrow/steal writing implements from fellow travellers or staff. Limited tables available, so you're likely to end up having to sit on the floor.
The lack of staff (and lack of speed of the staff available) mean you're likely to queue for an hour if not more to actually pass through passport control. Once through, there's 1 ATM available for anyone needing local currency - meaning another horrendous queue.
I've read that departure queues are just as bad - if not worse - so looks like more fun in store.response / report this review -

Having visited airports in Australia, New Zealand, America, Asia and South Africa this is THE WORST AIRPORT I’ve ever been to.
Modern looking but terribly run!
We waited 2.5 hours to leave the airport and the same to get through “security” despite having checked in online and only having carry on luggage.
Security is non existent - just endless people pretending to look at your passport when they look as if they’re waiting to end their lives.
I would avoid this place at all

Haha where do I start? That there are 10 passport checkpoints? At one point you get checked twice 5 meters apart. That it is rather a mall with an attached airport. That they don't read your passport at all. That they don't seem to know whether you need a visa to enter the country you're flying to. But yeah besides all the entertaining oddities, it's a nice airport. Security could get really frustrating I guess when the season is high but for off season when I was here it was actually a breeze. There is no bridge thingy to the plane so be ready to walk to the plane under the scorching sun. I had a similar experience of ridiculously repetitive security checkpoints in Kiev so it was just rather entertaining than frustrating. I made a right choice not to use my US passport cause the guards were super nice whenever they saw my Korean passport lol.

It is a beautiful new airport I wish they would have more places to sit down. We were not allowed to do an internet check-in then we were sent back and forth between checking - in, paying for the extra suitcase and dropping off the suitcases at Air Morocco. It was a real hassle! arrive with plenty of time.

The new arrival terminal is AMAZING!!!
Spotlessly clean, spacious, fantastic design.

Spacious airport and it's nice temperature. Staff is mostly friendly and parking is easy.
BUT: if your airline tells you to be there 3 hours in advance stick to it. The amount of controls before flying home can easily dent your holiday.
We arrived very early (like German earlyness) and here what you have to go through:
-Baggage and security check to get inside
-Baggage drop of is quite slow (takes a long time)
-Walk to the other side of the airport, first pass control and ticket control
-Hand luggage control
-boarding pass control (again)
Passport boarder control where you get the stamp (can get quite slow)
- passport and ticket control (again)
Keep in mind that every listed check hat it's own waiting line. I'm grateful that they want everything to be safe but that felt overkill and we really needed 3 hours from start to the gate. Never had that before.response / report this review -

Absolutely the most frustrating trip I've EVER taken. We are 4 days into our 10 day vacation in Marrakech without our bags. We immediately went to the baggage claim agent when we realized our bags did not come off the plane. We were sent on our way with a simple phone number and claim number with no reassurance whatsoever that they cared about us being in another country with none of our belongings. We immediately got with the concierge at our hotel to contact the airport and to stay in constant contact with the airport. We also contacted Royal Moroccan which was absolutely zero help. Yesterday, after a long delay we finally were able to establish that our bags were still in Casablanca, but they could nor get them on a plane to Marrakech and all they can do is send an email to the other airport. Now .how.in the world, is there not someone who can pick up a phone and call the other airport and tell them to send our bags??? After yet another frustrating day, and about 5000 Durhams just for shoes, 2 days worth of clothes and toiletries, the Marrakech airport told our concierge that our bags should be on an 11am flight today to Marrakech. It is now 4pm. and no bags. And no one will pick up the phone at all 4 numbers we have for the airport. It's my birthday and I am beyond angry at the lack of service and urgency on the part of Marrakech and Cadablanca airports. Not to mention the complete lack of service by Moroccan Royal Air. I strongly.strongly suggest never checking a bag. it would be cheaper and less frustrating to ship your bag directly to your resort vs spend unnecessary money, and spend hours at concierge trying to locate your bags.
Thank you for completely ruining my birthday. won't be one I will forget.response / report this review -

I was quite surprised with the building and the architecture, really beautiful and very clean. They run a tight security which is a good thing and very helpful staff including the Security monitoring the airport. Car rental stall's a little hard to find but they are in the departure gates.

Very spacious and modern airport, clean toilet facilities, good level of security. They could perhaps have an ATM machine in the arrivals area to withdraw cash in local currency to pay for things like taxi fares and gratuities on arrival, there is only a couple of money exchange kiosks inside immigration which had a long queue. I took a pre-booked taxi into Marrakech Town Centre, the walk to the car park was close to the arrivals exit point.

The airport was more than one would expect in a developing and modernizing country. The staff are pleasant as can be considering from a cultural perspective they still value many traditional customs that the western world simply have disregarded to respect when visiting their country. Understandably a language barrier is expected but everyone was still able to help and for the taxis outside just prepare the haggle. You have decided to visit Marrakech, so expect nothing less.

I was pleasantly surprised with the architecture of the building when we first landed. It was beautiful The designs are stunning especially at night with the lights. They have done a grand job on this. Secondly, the airport layout is simple and it works. Well Done Marrakech Airport. See you soon.
