While in Azrou to check out the Tuesday market and purchase some rugs, Fes’s guide “par excellence,” Amine Idrissi, suggested The Hotel Des Cedres for lunch. Amine said trout was the specialty of the “house,” and after eating Tagine after Tagine, I was ready for something different.

An elegant, suited, older gentleman, with a Moroccan-Gallic affect, took our order in French, Arabic, and English. Our trout came out of the kitchen looking beautifully prepared Almandine. Our suave gentleman server proceeded to filet each trout expertly and with aplomb. A Parisian three star Michelin could not have done better. The trout was sublime and the accompanying potatoes rich and tasty. It was a great meal in the charming Moroccan mountain town of Azrou.

This hotel can be easily spotted. It has a 1924-ish dinning room and you can also dine in the terrace. It can be pretty chilly like tonight (5degrees) but it can be amazing. The price is pretty reasonable and the quality is okay. My lamb (DH60) was not tender but the beef tagine (DH60) was better in texture and taste. Mint tea was DH10. We didn’t know that the speciality is trout (we should have had that!). The service was super awesome by a man in black suit. He is very professional and speaks a little English. They have a menu for DH100.

Our vehilce broke down just outside of Azrou and we were brought here by Ifrane breakdown service who was a really helpful chap. This is a good small hotel that was very clean and tidy with friendy staff, recommended to us by Micheal (that's what he told us to call him) in the motor accessory shop in the souk that has all the repair shops.

One of the few hotels in town with heating. Old but stylish rooms with hot shower and toilet.
