  The Cafe Central is a good place for people watching, particularly popular with the many day-trippers who have come over from Tarifa, Spain, and it has comfortable seats where most people sit, clean toilets, reasonably adequate Wi-Fi, some acceptable food and most drinks (but nothing alcoholic).
  
  Twenty years ago this was a run-down, grungy and unpretentious cafe without the huge protruding awning and modern white tables and chairs with outdoor plants that now takes up almost half of the Petit Socco. In the old days it was filled with old men who sat inside smoking kif for hours while having a mint tea and maybe playing chess or Dominos.
  
  The so-called Grand Cafe Central has been transformed into a garish cafe-restaurant with nothing of its old ambiance or history left: throughout the 1950s and 1960s the place was both a popular cafe and bar where alcohol was served inside, outdoor tables and chairs, and it was frequented by famous writers such as Mohamed Choukri, William Burroughs and Paul Bowles, among others.

  The place for mint tea and people watching. Good coffee and fresh orange juice as well. Free wifi, clean toilets.

  This place turned 203 years old this year! Imagine the characters who have spent time here. A must stop while in Tangier.
