Our visit to Skriveri and this delightful ice cream place was an adventure. This was our first visit to Latvia and the location Skriveri caused curiosity, since it means writing in our language - and both my wife and I like to write.
At the tourist information centre in Riga, we were informed that Skriveri has a place with famous ice cream. So we took the train to Skriveri and found the Skriveru Majas Saldejums. We were warmly greeted, and introduced to the creative ice cream menu choices. I chose potato ice cream with warm tomato sauce; my wife chose chocolate ice cream with blue cheese and dark chocolate sauce. Both were unique and special treats, tasting very, very good.
We did not try the most exotic ice cream served at Skriveru Majas Sadejums, but we saw some other guests try ice cream on salad bed with fish. It looked delicious and was very well received. For sure I will try this next time I visit this fantastic place.
To taste ice cream at Skriveru Majas Sadejums and visit Skriveri was alone worth the cost of visiting Riga/Latvia. The customer service at this place is extraordinary good: Smiley, passionate, and skillful. And the staff was fluent in English, something which put this nice place at the very top of our list of favorite places to visit and eat in Latvia.
We do not hesitate to give the family owned company our best review and warmest recommendations. You will be both pleased and surprised! This is a unique experience, comparable to any ethnic and culinary treat in the world.
