An amazing insight into how a beautiful nation had suffered under oppressive regimes. The tour was conducted by an incredibly knowledgeable young man, he was clear and concise with all aspects of Latvian history and answered any questions. The building has been kept as it was when the regime left and can be seen in all its grim history. A highly recommended place to visit in Riga, it is a fantastic tour lasting a couple of hours, also it is also quite graphic in the detail, a real eye opener to someone who grew up in the West as how the East suffered.

We bought tickets online for the guided tour around the cellblock. The tour took about 1,5 hours and the guide was great and spoke good English so it was easy to understand. He knew what he was talking about and seemed very passionate about educating people. I learned so much about Latvian history. This is definitely a must visit place in Riga.

Great place full of history. Somewhat scary at times if you try to portray what the guide is saying. Shame this place is due a renovation so might loose a bit of its charm. Get there while you can.

Interesting history of Russian oppression. Check times of tours as we missed last guided tour of the cells so probably best to go earlier in the day. You can walk around the exhibits for free though

The guided tour through the prison cells is really good, for a good price. Left feeling like I know a lot more about Latvia. A great emotional insight into the shocking recent history of Latvia.

Get to see this before it goes all Anne Frank. I went to the Anne Frank House a few times before they added a glass and crome building on it and covered all the best bits in glass and sanitised the experience. The KGB building is raw and dirty and unsanitised and really frighting. A raw and unapologetically gritty tour that doesn't need to use any props as your imagination adds the pain, screams and smell of blood of its victims. That said the execution chamber is closed for renovating but well worth it for €5. My english tour was at 1pm

This is a really must do in Riga. You should book the guided tour because you'll be able to learn many things about this dark period with a young excellent guy!

You'll also be able to visit the cells : very impressive and gloomy place

Although I would have liked to see the offices as well as the basement, the fact that the offices weren't open for visit wasn't in the hands of the people running the museum. This museum is very informative, with guides that aren't afraid to tell the truth without dancing around it. It's a very sad thing that this place will be repurposed, such a big chunk of history, even awful history, should be preserved, if only for a lesson for future generations. Go while you still can, but not for the faint of heart.

You need to get the guided tour for the best experience, but it is only a few Euros. My guide was very knowledgeable and spoke flawless English. Not for the faint hearted - the details are quite gruesome in places, and some of the stories are very sad.

Really interesting real life museum from their time under Soviet rule. Brought to life by the English speaking and passionate guides. There's limited space on the tours and only 3 per day, so make sure you go early to secure a ticket. See photo for timings.

Absolute recommend going here! Lots of information about the oppression from Soviet and the workings of KGB, or the Cheka, and the resistance. Make sure to go on the guided tours as you can only see the offices, prison and execution chambers that way. The exhibition is for free and the guided tour costs 5€.

This museum should be on top of everyone's list when visiting Riga. It is really worth it to do the tour. Our tour guide spoke perfect English and the way he explained the events made it really easy to absorb all the information and imagine what it was like in the past. It is a history lesson not to be missed!

Nice tour of an old KGB prison facility. Pretty eerie to think this is how life was in the 1940s-1980s. Definitely worth $5.

I thought it's going to be boring museum but at the end I learned a lot of interesting things. The way which guid were talking to was amazing , it was interesting and wanted to listen to every single word from him. I mean he has a little funny accent but it was cool.
The only thing which bothered me was amount of people in group, sometimes we couldn't fit in a room
