One of the highlights of our trip to Riga. Authentic food, a server that really knew what service meant and was extremely helpful. Great traditional soup and meal, but, above all, incredible ambience and experience. Over 15 different taps, from IPAs by honey beers to raw wild yeast cider, they have it all. Top it off with ridiculously low prices and you have yourself a winning package.
The only issue is: it gets packed and, when we went a second time, it was understaffed, making us leave after 15 minutes without no one aknowledging our presence.response / report this review -

Great ambience, good choice of many beers, good filling food. The sharing platter was great with beer. Music on most nights. Excellent place to hang out and meet people.

Very good restaurant set in a medieval theme and serving Latvian classics. Visited the restaurant for dinner and the food was very good and reasonably priced. The tables were mostly booked so booking in advance is recommended.

Our number one spot in Riga. Awesome place to get some good Latvian food and sample local beers. The food is delicious and very affordable. This place is very popular and if you want to eat and drink anywhere close to the stage to see the life shows you might want to book first as it is always busy. We liked it so much we went 3 times. Highly recommend it!

Just amazing. Good choice of beer accompanied by just as good food. Meatballs were great, appetizers tasty and rich. There's a good chance you would ignore this place just passing by, the entrance is longish, but at the end there is a cellar room that looks amazing! It looks like a medieval tavern. Really atmospheric

Amazing place! Super food at a great price, we ate there 3 times in 3 days. Friendly staff, busy but great atmosphere, beautiful roaring fire too. Would definitely recommend.

This place is just great. It looks great inside (you werent allowed to take photos tho), the service is very friendly and the food is extremely tasty. They have a wide variety of beer and drinks too!

Cool old style bar Great traditional food. Their main menu is on throughout the day serving traditional style Latvian food (they stopped serving this at around 11). Good selection of beers and there seems to be a band on every night. It gets very busy early evening!

For years "Ala" has been a great place to spend your evenings chatting with friends and just chilling, but on weekends - an awesome folk music party house. Live music and karaoke also available. Recommending It for tourists who want to catch Latvian national vibe.

The food was really great, and the place had a lot of energy. Finding a table was tricky without a reservation, but once we were seated and tried the amazing garlic bread we were good! Lots of foreigners, but still had a local vibe too. We left before the music got going, but seems like a great venue all around.

Good place with nice atmosphere and reasonable prices, but it's always packed and if 2/3 of the place is booked, it's just wrong to sell beer and than people find out they have nowhere to sit, just because everything is "reserved" for a time after 2 hours. If it's reserved at 20:00, than untill than (or at least 19:30) it should be perfectly fine for people to sit, right? :) Or just say "sorry, we're packed" and forward people to other places..

Delicious traditional Latvian food as well as a great variety of different beers. Make sure to ask the knowledgable bartenders for a beer tasting. They'll make sure to suggest you some good choices based on your likes. Wednesday nights are great for viewing some traditional dancing. Thursdays will give you the chance to sing your hear out at karaoke nights.

The place is surely impressive with its style and really large underground space and nevertheless it's crowded with tourists. The food is great and offered in very good portions - I had the seasonal pan (first dish in the Mains list) and it was super tasty. A quite large list of beers is available too and the waiters are ready to make a recommendation. Keep in mind that due to the crowds there might be a bit of a wait, but generally service is attentive and still quick.

This is the place to visit when in Riga. Tailor your visit depending on what you're after, if you like it busy with live music arrive early to get your table or of you want a quiet meal turn up in the afternoon. So many good beer options and the food is exactly what the tourist is looking for. Very busy any evening of the week.

Avoid. Seems they have gotten too famous. Security guards won't let you in even if you have a box of souvenir chocolates. Went to the trumpet bar right in front. Great cocktails, good house beer and great service

This is such a nice place! Good food and live music every day!! If you finish your plate you get a free beer! Don't go for the honey beer, it's awful!

Super friendly staff. We had a beer that tasted bad, after informing the waiter, we got a new beer and an extra one. Food is good, snacks are great. Entrance is spooky as hell, but once you are in, you dont want to go out!

Great local folk bar in old town. It is located in an expansive basement area complete with arching columns. The locals go here to listen to traditional music and dance. The food was excellent and the beer/wine/drink selection was extensive.
