This place is absolutely stunning and humbling, it breathes history in every corner and I have rarely seen a cemetery as beautiful as this. It is build on hills and thanks to many trees there is a lot of shade. You constantly walk up and down and not all paths are paved, but rather beaten tracks. The grave stones have all very different characters, made from wood or steel or stone, be it a cross, a tree stump, an angel statue or a mausoleum.
There is a dedicated area for Polish soliders who have fought side by side with the Lithuanian people in the early 20th century.
The place can be reached by bus and is a good walk from the city center.
One of the most beautiful cemeteries I have ever seen in a nice foresty area. Shame about the road in the middle but if you go into the southern part and get further in you are barely aware of what happens outside the cemetery. Must see in vilnius if you like walks with a view.
Probably the oldest cementary near the center of Vilnius with great history.
👍
Oldest cemetry in city.
